If someone wants to go camping fine, if someone else wants to go in a motel that's fine as well: it's called freedom of choice, and THAT'S THE METAL SPIRIT, isn't it? Don't talk to me about metal spirit, 'cause that just makes me laugh, you don't even know me!!! Metal spirit as I know it is all about no rules, no form of judgement, and basically, do whatever the fuck you want in whatever way you wanna do it. If staying in a cheap motel instead of camping isn't "metal" enough for you, then sorry.

Hey, you dont need to take that too seriously! I didnt want to insult you at all! I couldnt care less you if you go to a festival and sleep in a motel instead of the camping site...

heyheyhey, nobody was talking about you personally. I was just a bit drunk and making jokes as usually.
Didn´t want to offend anybody, and as Evenfiel says, don´t take us too seriously!
I neither don´t care if someone stays in a Hotel or campsite or wherever, that´s everybody´s own choice!

Actually, I did take it a bit too seriously, and I apologise if I was aggressive in my reply...
It's just that I've been to god only knows how many concerts far away from home, sleeping anywhere...in 2000 and 2001 I came to Wacken by bus (20 hrs...) and camped, this year I decided to do it differently. Anyway, see you in 2003 (hopefully with more death/black metal)!

well i dont think it matters if you camp or stay in a hotel and it certainly does not mean you are less "metal" if you stay in a hotel (and i know that evenfiel and xpet did not mean it to sound like that)
its like the old long hair/short hair thing :) you know the one "you cant be into metal you have short hair" lol

i stayed in a hotel this year .......but i wish i had camped and as i think i will be going on my own next year i will camp for sure
it is nice to have a shower and a real bed i have to admit ....but i prefer to camp haha i even took a tent this year ...even though i was staying in the hotel ...just so we had somewhere to go back to

oh talking of camping ... is it expensive to buy stuff at the supermarket on site at Wacken ? i bought bread ,beer and water there ...but i have to admit i didnt even think about how much it was at the time ...........a lot of people were going into the village for beer ....but i thought f**k that i will buy it at the spar tent .....so was i ripped off really bad or are the prices there ok ?

I must admit that camping is MUCH more fun...especially if you have cool people in the tents around you (which is usually the case at metal festivals because everybody is in the same spirit)...

I made the mistake of opting for the hotel option this year with the English coach service, when I barely even used the hotel room. The second night, the bus got us back to the hotel in Hamburg by 4:30, and we had to be up in the morning by 8:30 (I think?) to catch the bus back to the festival...barely enough time to get a quick nap, shower, change, get a quick breakfast, and that's it. Fuck that!

So I'm definitely camping next year...I ended up camping the first night of the festival, and just had infinitely more fun, as well as more time to sleep, even if it wasn't in a clean bed. Not to mention that it's a lot easier to meet people and make friends at the campsite (as long as you bring beer). There's also something to be said for the experience of stumbling drunk around the campsite at 4 AM screaming Manowar songs at the top of your lungs with people from four different countries.

So yeah, camping may just be a bit more fun, but if you're at the festival, you're already as metal as it gets to begin with! :)

About the supermarket on site prices.

The first day we bought a case of beer at the town supermarket for about 12 €.
When we finished that one off we didn't want to carry that after a while VERY heavy case of beer one more time, so bought one at the on site supermarket. Paid 30 € there...
I guess you get ripped off in comparison, but it WAS worth those extra 18 € since we needn't carry those darn beers so long until we were back at the tent drinking again :)

And compared to Swedish prices 30 € for 24 beers (50 cl) isn't that bad :D

hmm thanks ...well i dont think 30 euro for 24 beers is too bad
here in U.K for 24 cans of "decent" beer like becks , holsten , stella or grolch it is around £20 (30 euro) so it wasnt as bad as i thought then :)
and like you say ...it is much easier than carrying it back from the village :) by the way how far is it away from the festival site ? we drove through the village in the coach ..but i didnt really take any notice of the distance from the site

cheerz guys ....ahh well glad i didnt go to the village supermarket then :)

i think i will use the on site supermarket next year too ...plenty of time to save up the extra money
cant bring much with me at all as i will have to use the shuttle bus from Itzehoe
haha looking forward to Wacken 2003 allready :) a bit early i know lol

from what i have heard Summer Breeze has nothing on Wacken regarding the "metal spirit" i did prefer the line up at S.B ....but wouldnt miss out on Wacken ...its true what i read "go to Wacken once and you will keep going"
this year was only my 2nd time
