I don't know. I prefer the Oyster Card. Easier than buying paper tickets from a machine, and not being able to check if I bought the right ticket. Plus, I'm a train fan, so I tend to go see a city by its subway system. And since London has the oldest system of the world...
And my Oyster just cost £3 itself, instead of the £5 it usually costs.
Which reminds me, I have to check, if I can get myself a refund for the OV-chipkaart of one of my kids! It's about to end!

But considering how long it took for me to cross the street in central Amsterdam, I can see your point
