If you have money, you have to pay. If you don't, you are allowed to have the same chances as everyone else, and money cannot be a border here.

And don't worry, Holly has to pay too, though in absolute figures less than you do. In relative sense however I don't think there's any difference.
The strongest shoulders should carry the most weight.

And if your parents don't support you, then tough luck. Apparently they're not interested then in your education!

I think it should be fair for everyone. Have programs that make it easier for everyone to go to school, or have school cheaper in general.

That would be a better solution.

Um... absolutely no difference? Me and Holly would both have to work. No one would pay for either of us. I don't choose to be born into my family, either.

No, my parents are very interested. They just know, as I do, that we as a country need to quit babying the people, going "awwwww you poor thing, let me help you out so I can feel better about myself". The government helping out the people too much is like parents letting their kids live at home till they're 30. Kids, just like the general population, need to grow up and be independent. There's no right to have an advanced education, it should be earned, not given away freely. My parents simply want me to learn to be independent. The government wants us to be dependent on them. If my parents had given me everything I wanted, do you think I would have been able to travel on my own straight out of high school? Obviously they did something right. The only "tough luck" is that I should have been working harder to save up for college before I got out of high school.

Yeah. Just, I see that too much aid is unfair. When you get to the point where internet and tourism start to be considered necessary for survival, something has to give.

I've always been supportive of basic education being supplied, but, we have to learn to live within our means. We're about to have a double dip recession because of too much debt because we haven't been living within our means for quite some time. I mean, I know my mother came from a very wealthy family, her parents cared nothing for her and threw her out the door with nothing. That is why we are in the situation we are in. We weren't born into a poor family, in fact, both of the families of both of my parents are quite wealthy. Because of lack of family support, and having no aid on the other side, neither had any motivation to do well and lived off of that as an excuse, whether valid or not.

It depends on how a person is raised and taught, if they are taught that they should always receive a hand out, then they will be less willing to work hard to make their goals in life. If they are taught to always work hard and that there are no limits (which is what my sister and I were taught) then there is no problem.

I qualified for aid, most of my friends did not. Although I understand supposedly their families could afford it, I realized that they aren't always willing to be supportive. Most of my classmates were paying everything out of pocket while working a part time job, while I was getting a free ride. I didn't see that as fair, and in a sense I almost don't want to take the aid I've been offered because I did not do as well while I wasn't paying out of pocket. I figure if I have to pay for my classes, maybe I'll actually be more willing to work hard at it.
