I can't get my ticket till around late Feb/early March.I'm coming from the states.I haven't checked out any hotels yet or the package deals.Are the package deals any good or do I have to get a sleeping bag?

Greetings!After one year, there are no other festival beating Wacken, that is for sure.
Though I want to go see other festivals like Wave-Gotik and M'era Luna but at least Wacken, there will be many visits there after this year

if at all possible you should camp at Wacken ....last year i was in a hotel in Hamburg (about 50 mins drive away) and it was no where near as much fun .......next year i will camp for sure like i did the first time i was there
ok so being able to take a shower , use a nice clean toilet and sleep on a real bed was very nice ..........but not really very "metal" hahaha .....also it is a very long day if you dont have a tent/beer to go back to

LOL i know .......but i went back to my lovely warm clean hotel on the reeperbahn in Hamburg (actuallly we had a tent there in Wacken too) ....ok so it wasnt as much fun but at least i was dry and clean and comfy
but i will be camping next year for sure

oh yeah
if you have not been yet you should try and go sometime St Pauli rules its a true 24 hour place i loved it there and miss it v much if you go check out the Clokhard (i think its called) a dark n dirty metal bar above a sex shop (if i remember right)

only bad thing about staying in a hotel there was that we didnt get back untill around 4:30am 
cant wait for Wacken 2003 hope we find out some more bands in the next few weeks

In regards the prices for beer etc I found them to be ok,
In a supermarket in Frankfurt airport I bought cigarettes and four cans of Warsteiner and it came to 8 euros
In Dublin in the nearest offlicence four warsteiners alone comes to nearly 10 euros so compared to that everything in Germany is cheap,
Seeing as Ireland is one of the most expencive countrys in Europe now I found the prices even at Wacken to be reasonable,
