I guess, the 2 times Wacken had a big headliner, they didn't kind of have a big success on dealing with them. I mean, the festival area was relatively full, rather quickly, may I add, even before the headliners in question could play ONE single note. And that was a big source of complaints!

Besides, if you check the history of Wacken, you'd find that htere aren't that many "big shots" then. Though some bands might actually be NOW, but you have to look at the time then.

there's usually 2 or 3 every year, and I don't see them yet to be honest.
though I do count enough bands to fill my days up.

I do have enough bands to fill up my days too, I'm pretty sure I'll go back to Wacken this summer :p

Well that sucks, guess I will go to either Party San before I fly home or to Metal on the Hill.

There are not enough interesting bands for you to see in the billing right now to make it worth to go to Wacken ?

There's about 30 bands that I'm interested in but some of them I've seen in concert many times already. Guess I was just expecting more death metal, black metal, thrash bands instead of the metalcore shit bands on the bill. But it's my first time to Wacken and I will still have a fun time while I am there.

What's the best time to get to Wacken? My first time in Germany so was thinking to do sightseeing on Monday & Tuesday in Hamburg first before going to Wacken on Wednesday. Or should I get to Wacken earlier than that.

Depends on how many days of partying you think you can handle of course :D

The "OFFICIAL" opening is on Wednesday, but as people started to come earlier and earlier, the NEW OFFICIAL opening is on Monday! However, there will be NO BANDS playing on either Monday or Tuesday.
Basically, it depends if you want to camp somewhere near the stages (full on the first day), or if you have ordered a "Ready to Rock" package, where your tent is prepared as you arrive. (costs a few $$, I don't know how much exactly!) The latter gives you a guarandeed place on a relatively good spot as well. The same goes for Campground A (car free camping)

The rest is up to you!

That,s what I was going to say, just to be there is a blast !

I did that last summer, arrived on monday and left for Wacken on wednesday morning, all in all it went well to be there early that day and my tent was already pitched so that was easy.

I think especially for people coming from oversea and not having a car, renting a tent is the best bet, you don't have to worry about having a good camping spot, it gives you more time to get there and visit Hamburg(or elsewhere) like you wanna do.

Btw if you wanna start partying earlier there is a pre wacken party at the Night Light in the reeperbahn on the tuesday night, the bar is full and people are drinking outside, this is pretty fun :p

Sounds good to me with all the advice. So, I'm thinking I will just do that rent a tent thing even though it might be a bit more $$. Saves room in my backpack by not packing my tent and can get there on Wednesday and still have a decent spot to camp.

As for partying I plan on partying as soon as I arrive in Germany.

Prost!!

Yeah rent a tent is stress free, you gonna be somewhere in campground A for sure and it's really close to the infield.

Checkout this company, I rented from them last summer the service and price are great https://www.zeltheld.com/en/products.htm I'm not sure but they might be the cheapest tents to rent out there.

Are you planning on going to Wacken alone or with friends?

Oh hell yeah they seem to be way cheaper than the other company that rents tents and can even order cases of beer from them. But how am I gonna keep the beer cold?

I am going to Wacken by myself.

Haha unless you have a cooler with ice the beer is gonna be warm, but don't waste your money on their beer, you gonna have the same amount for less than half the price in town at Wacken
