I'm not complaining, but I'm a bit disappointed that In Extremo are on so late. I've never seen them live and so they are one of the big draws for me. But, I guess someone has to be on late so I'll just have to make sure I don't get too drunk / fall asleep!
I feel the same way !
I have absolutely nothing to complain about ... I will see them regardless of the time they play.
Out of curiosity, because I really don't know, does the size of the crowd decrease very much by that time of night? Not just thinking of the crowd size for In Extremo but Ghost the night before as well.

yes and no, it depends on the weather.
Last year I saw kreator in the middle of the night while it was raining, there weren't that many people left.
I saw them a few years before that, also pretty late, but it was a super hot edition, and it was still very crowded.

Well ... accoding to the information provided by @thesubtleknife in another thread .. the weather should be perfect for a great crowd !!

I didn't know that, I wonder why?

Perhaps the Reinheitsgebot means German beer gives people enough energy to stay awake?!

I don't know, I rather see the stages close earlier and the bands are spread out a bit more. Maybe add the wednesday as a real festival day instead of just a "pre party" where to many people try to get in the tentstages.

We are currently running workshops with different ideas about this problems. One idea is to close the open air stages at midnight or 1 AM and to open a whole load of new big tents with DJs, cover bands etc. afterwards to party until the morning. Imagine one Death tent that looks like a butchery, one Coyote Ugly bar.. but this will need more time.

As you wrote before, the big problem is the weather. When we get good weather, it is no problem to stand in front of the stage at 3am. But if it rains all the time..

About wednesday as a full festival day: This isn't possible, we aren't allowed to make too much noise on Wednesday and we have to close the stages earlier. This is also the reason why the main stage shows are stopping at midnight on Thursday.

Yeah the weather makes all the difference.

I'm wondering about the tents, We wanted to keep on partying last year, but then the tent closed down and we were asked to leave.
If I recall correctly in the past there was a metal karaoke/disco until 6 in the morning. Why did that change?

I'm glad you guys are always trying to improve! Thanks for the answer!

The long, long days are a bit of a worry. I do have a bit of a habit of drinking extremely quickly on the first day of a festival and then missing a lot of the bands. I'm hoping that common sense prevails and I'm able to pace myself better over the 4 days. The problem being that Germany serves the best beer in the world, it's a conundrum for sure.
