What means "formal-like"? "Guten Tag"?

"Morgen" for example, if I'm passing a cleaner in a hotel, or "Hallo" if I walk into a restaurant. I guess I did occasionally hear "Moin" used by others, but not directed at me.

By the way: I often thought that it's surely not easy to learn German, if everybody here (except my parents :D) speaks English, right?
I remember in the German Forum you spoke a pretty good German! Did you learn it in the forum too?

Haha nope :p Google helped me with that one. I never learnt German at school; in high school our year had to do Japanese and choose between French and German (that rotated every year, so the next group of new students might have to do French and choose between the remaining two). I guess I picked French because my mum took German at school and hated it...biggest regret of my life, but then again, I was only 10 or 11 years old when I had to make the choice :o

On the other hand, every native German speaker who has heard me make attempts at speaking it, have been really surprised; "accent-free" has even been used to describe my pronunciation :D I put that down to listening to Rammstein since I was 13 :D

Have you been to the doctor?
:D

Not yet. I don't like going to the doctor unless I know I'll get something back (a script...a referral...a needle...a cast...something!). Only half of the cost is covered by public health care, and I don't want to pay the other half only to be told it's "nothing" :o

Maybe it's because they want to hypnotize you.
Perhaps they are the ultimate EVIL!

The only thing we can do is eating more beef! :D

:D

Yes! Oh man I remember this one time my family went to visit my mum's uncle who lives on a farm. He's retired but leases his land to neighbours who keep their cattle there so that he can afford to live there. Anyway my brother and I were walking through the paddock to kill some time when suddenly...at the top of the hill...all the cattle gathered on the horizon...in a straight line...facing us...glaring at us...

We ran back to the house :o

Have you ever watched Man v. Food? The food in that show... Me wants!

Oh yes! I know that! My mouth is always watering when I watch this. Most things look very delicious.
And this guy ("Adam Richman"? Is it his name?) is awesome! He can eat tons of food. :)
I could watch him for hours!

Only American cows have guns!

This could be. Because of their laws. :D

I think they thought you wouln't understand "Moin"?

"Japanese" sounds cool, too. :)

With 10 or 11 years you didn't know that you would travel in the future to the W.O.A., right? :)
And now it's too late to change your decision, right?

Yes, music helps a lot!

Oh, I see. :(
If I should pay the half of the costs, I wouln't go either. :D

They just argue that no one uses it anyway because everyone drives. Well..we have no choice because there is NO public transportation :( The houses are so far apart and outside the city but no one can get there LOL

Sounds like the sort of logic local council would use here. Don't know how true it is, but I read Brisbane has the 3rd most expensive public transport after London and Oslo, and it's not even that good :o

Bullocks!

Not everyone can drive (e.g. me, people under 18 (16 in Canada?), some handicapped people etc.) and ALL of us have the right to mobility without paying a bag load of money.

hmm I think I pay way more for public transport over here than I did in london. (km price)

I don't think so.
Bus is (relatively) cheap in NL, depending on where you are of course. (8.9cts/km in Frysia, 16.2cts/km in the south of Limburg). The point is, a single trip in London is already £4 (on paper ticket) or £2.80 on Oyster (chip) card. (as far as I've informed myself) In Almere I pay like €1.16 for a single trip (within 1 zone)

Edit Piaf zegt: €1.25 according to www.9292.nl)

but for that 2,80 you can travel quite a bit. when I take the train to the nearest station it's already 2,10 and that's seriously within walking distance.

the bus is about 1,20(home work). the bus in london is 1,40 and takes you way farther. so in the end there isn't that much difference.

What's the exchange rate on a £? (in €)
I think a £ is about €1.30?
