Metal: Symphonic, power, folk, a capella, doom, pirate, ambient/atmospheric, black, viking/pagan, gothic, and pretty much anything in between.
Beer: pale ales, Miller's, Bud, also love cider

I'm looking to meet people, make friends, and listen to metal.

I really feel for you north americans.

I'm lucky where I live, there are a lot of people from everywhere here because there is so much work. As a result we have a huge selection of beer from all over the world. I split them into two groups. There are the regular inexpensive domestic beers like Canadian and Bud, for when your out to get shitted on a budgit. Then you have dozens and dozens of micro breweries and a huge selection of international brands for when your in more of a sipping and enjoying mood.

Over here it all depends on the pub that you're visiting.
Some have a few hundred types of beer. Others have 4.

In the last few years I've noticed a similar trend here as well especialy in the downtown core where I live. There are a few pubs not far from me that all have micro breweries right in them, and there are 2 tap houses, one clames to have a hundred kinds of beer, and the other that I visited just monday was serving a variaty of October Fest German beers. Don't ask me to name them, my German is still poor (just over 300 days to dial that in).

About the beers, I'd say, try us! I know for a fact that at least one member of this forum has tasted 8.000 different beers. There's almost bount to be some local vermont beers in there

One question, why a hotel?

I put everything together through a travel agency to make my life easier. Hotel seemed more restful after a day of standing in sun/rain. And I hate camping.

Ask your friend if he has every had Shed or Switchback. Those are two really good local beers in Vermont.
