To me if they want to add in a bit of a mix they could choose something a little more legitimate. Hell, I'd even prefer to see some crust punk or more crossover bands as actual legitimate blends of metal and hardcore punk over post hardcore/metalcore/deathcore bands that, to me, really just defeat the purpose of both genres they claim to take influence from. I just have a really hard time rationalizing any reasons for adding bands like BMTH or BFMV.

I think it would be interesting to have some of the past headliners and bands that have participated in the festival a few times come back for the anniversary, for sure. I think they should still carry on the tradition of bringing in a handful of some newer/up and coming bands that have never been to the fest before. But I think those bands should be legitimate metal bands, not this -core garbage. There are quite a few newer bands out there with a lot of talent that aren't metalcore for crying out loud, which is why I have difficulty seeing this as just a "gotta give new bands a chance" sorta deal.

I know what you mean, I really can't rationalize BMTH or BFMV going either. I know they're popular and those types of bands are going to be more common than I care to accept or even acknowledge, but they really don't have a place at Wacken I wouldn't think. Perhaps a handful of people would enjoy them, but from what I've seen more people would rather pee in a bottle and throw it at them than actually watch them.

I do agree with the idea of bands that have never been to Wacken who are up and coming going. Those bands are the ones that I've been wanting to see listed. I love discovering new music, especially from new bands.

I know this is a bit off topic, but does anybody else seem to notice that the recent tours seem to be sort of odd an combination? When I saw Finntroll I sat through two 'core bands and a thrash band. And Exodus' current tour has Belphagor and Epicurean with them. Not to mention Turisas being stuck with Cradle of Filth or Eluveitie with Dying Fetus and Kataklysm. I can see it done at a festival, but a tour?

The last days this was one of the most active thread in the International forum - Talk.
Since the "fantastic" (bullshit) Running Wild's announcement, the activity decayed

WHERE IS THE FUCKING DEATH, BLACK AND OLD SCHOOL METAL BANDS!!!!!!

I insist in a "decent" headliner to the black metal stage !

Immortal is working on a new album now. That might mean something :p

Yeah, I've been noticing this as well. Warbringer played with Finntroll last August which was weird...and kinda sucks for those who actually enjoy thrash. Since the lineup is mostly folk metal you don't get a huge turn out for a newer thrash band like Warbringer and there was only a few of us there watching/attempting to start some kind of pit. Felt bad for the band knowing that if they were touring with other thrash bands it have been a far better show for them. They aren't exactly the best band in the world but they still deserve more interest than that at a show ffs. Very energetic live band. There seems to be a lot of weird fits like that going on but to tell the truth it seems to have been "building" over the last couple of years, just seems more obvious these days. Especially with the "rise" of folk metal it seems.

Well, here Warbringer had a decent turnout here. There was a quality pit going. I'd say at least 75% of the crowd was into them. I just can't get into them at all.

I've noticed it a bit over the years, but at least for the most part they were at least somewhat close to each other, at least to a degree. Now it seems they're picking bands to tour with each other when each band has an entirely different fan base and it just ends up with everybody getting in everybody else's way. And like you said, decent bands that belong to another genre than the headliner really don't get the attention they deserve.

What other true black metal bands are possible as headliner and such other than Immortal? It's interesting that the person that made that image thing guessed a lot of bands correctly, like Running Wild, but there's nothing more than speculation with the remainder of the lineup for the most part.

I'm not sure. I was thinking since the whole Gorgoroth mess got settled and Gaahl and King had to change their band name to God Seed, I was wondering if they'd get Infernus' Gorgoroth to play this year since they're touring this summer. Its not like it'd be the same Gorgoroth that played last year!:p Other than that I'm trying to think of what bands came out with new albums recently and who's touring but I'm not sure any of the bands that have are big enough to headline the black stage. Since Taake is playing a few shows it'd be nice to see them there though that obviously won't be happening unfortunately. Keep of Kalessin and Mayhem are touring this summer as well. Would be nice for them to book Mayhem since I'll be missing them in Toronto:p

Confirmed, no real big black metal acts. This person's method of delivery kind of agitates me too.

http://woafor.wacken.com/showthread.php?t=153848

Headliners are all announced too. No black metal headliner at all.

This kind of pisses me off even though I'm not a huge fan of the genre.

oohh.. that's mean.. no more big announcements, so the rest of the billing will be smaller/almost unknow bands.....

No real big BM acts.. so we need to forget to Immortal, Emperor, Venom etc..

Smaller BM bands.. i think bands like: Taake, Cor Scorpii, Vried, Shinning, Dark Fortress, or something like that...

It kind of seems that they're catering to people who like the more mainstream stuff and the people who like mainly power metal and old school metal rather than the diverse crowd this year. If they want to go in that direction, good for them. They should have let us know first.

I still don't quite get why that post bothers me. Maybe it's just been my shitty day. I had a pretty nasty argument with my economics professor and he went to the classic "shut up you're an idiot" method because he couldn't win.

Nope =(

There's still a fair number of smaller black metal bands I want to see though. I can only hope that "smaller" doesn't mean 100% unknown.

At least there's still a chance for a few of the black metal bands I like. Keep of Kalessin puts on a good show and I still want to see Vreid.
