Just been having a look round a few websites. Scorpions have 28th July -France, 1st August - Finland.

There are a few days in the middle of that that seem to make Wacken a strong possibility.

I hope so, saw Scorps last year, was a bit pissed, but they were great.

Scorpions are actually one of the few old school heavy metal bands that I would love to see at Wacken!

Band's I'd love to see at Wacken other than some of the ones mentioned above, though its unlikely some of them would be there:

Hail of Bullets
Vreid
Vomitory
Vader
Asphyx
Krisiun
Entombed
Dismember
Destroyer 666
Immolation
Sotajumala
Horna (though I think they recently played their last live show)
Carpathian Forest
Dawn of Azazel
Sodom
Tankard
Sadus
Razor
Nocturnal Graves
Barbarian
Trench Hell
Witchtrap
Candlemass!
Cor Scorpii

Not a big fan of a lot of the new wave of thrash but would be cool to see bands like Violator and Diamond Plate there.

Until now, mostly of previous rumors to the "big announcements" have become true (mago de oz, gamma ray, doro, engel, etc.. etc..)

As i said in some post.. i think at least 20 bands missing to the final line up, and the "new" rumors are:

Edguy, Grave Digger, DevilDriver, J.B.O., Sonic Syndicate, U.D.O., UK Subs, Breed77, Unleashed, Eths, Der W, Retrospect, Drone, Nervecell, Bai Bang..

if this become true .... the final line up would be almost complete... AND IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, WOULD BE THE WORST BILLING of the last 10 festivals, far far away to be a billing worthy of 20th aniversary... if that becomes true.. definitively I shoot myself!:(

Really the WOA Organizers would think that this billing is worthy of 20th aniversary???

Honestly, I wonder if the organizers give a damn anymore. I don't hate the lineup really, but like you said, it's real weak comparable to the past and other fests. I think that 2007's was the strongest lineup still. If that lineup with perhaps a mix of 2006's lineup could come this year it'd be great.

Didn't you say something about Equilibrium and Eluveitie being rumored too?

I think the only bands I can really agree with even a little bit from that bunch are Edguy and Gravedigger.

Yes i read somewhere about Eluveitie and Equilibrium... I'm crossing fingers for them... together with Unleashed... I think these bands are the only one of my wish list that could be confirmed.. and of course I'm still waiting for top act for the black metal stage
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My W:O:A 2009 Request:
Venom ,Tankard, Pestilence (reunion), Wehrmacht (reunion) Voivod, Artillery
Arkona, Thyrfing, Equilibrium, Manegarm, Cor Scorpii
Unleashed, Vader, Hail of Bullets, Arch Enemy, Carpathian Forest

Same, I hope it's not one of the annoying fad-bands they have here in the States like Cradle of Filth. They aren't American-based but they're equally as annoying.

I'm crossing my fingers for them and Managarm. I don't really see it happening, but hey.

I really hope there are at least closer to 30 bands or more missing:( I mean, Unleashed, Grave Digger, Edguy, and Bai Bang (don't like but I understand why they have them there) all make some kind of sense. But what the hell is the rest of this trash like Breed77 what the hell is that? Der W? DevilDriver? Eths? hell most of this.

I'm thankful as hell for Running Wild, Whiplash, and Sarke and there are some other decent bands on the billing, but some of this just doesn't make any fucking sense.

Honestly, I wonder if the organizers give a damn anymore.

That's what I'm thinking as well but then its like they're sending mixed messages. On the one hand you have a select few quality bands, as well as bands that have been to the festival so many times it makes sense to invite them for the anniversary, and rumours about how they're going to be all these surprises. On the other hand you have a great number of bands that you wonder why on earth they'd even think to invite them in the first place.

The other thing I don't get is why on earth there is not more old school thrash, death metal, and black metal. I mean there's been a decently strong presence of these bands for many years at Wacken, I mean bringing back Possessed, Immortal, and Emperor for reunion shows. Not only that but where the hell's the Morbid Angel, Immolation, Entombed, Destruction, Sodom, Onkel Tom Angelripper, Atheist, Obituary (ok they were there last year but still), Sinister, Dismember, Carpathain Forest, Death Angel, Assassin, Vader, Vomitory, Suffocation.

All the traditional bands that are there now should be there to celebrate the 20th anniversary, but so should the abovementioned bands as well. They also have a long history at the festival so why the fuck aren't they at all represented so far? Its getting frustrating as hell and makes no fucking sense.

I can understand them getting even a bit of a mix, but is BMTH even considered metal by anybody? I can see adding in a bit of metalcore to throw in a bit of mix in the lineup, but for a "Best of" they should be taking the best bands from previous festivals and adding a bunch of great ones that haven't been too often into the mix.

Especially bands like Immortal, Emperor and such. It's a shame Blind Guardian made a deal with somebody else to be the "only German show of 2009". Bringing back every popular headliner would be my idea of a "Best of".

To me if they want to add in a bit of a mix they could choose something a little more legitimate. Hell, I'd even prefer to see some crust punk or more crossover bands as actual legitimate blends of metal and hardcore punk over post hardcore/metalcore/deathcore bands that, to me, really just defeat the purpose of both genres they claim to take influence from. I just have a really hard time rationalizing any reasons for adding bands like BMTH or BFMV.

I think it would be interesting to have some of the past headliners and bands that have participated in the festival a few times come back for the anniversary, for sure. I think they should still carry on the tradition of bringing in a handful of some newer/up and coming bands that have never been to the fest before. But I think those bands should be legitimate metal bands, not this -core garbage. There are quite a few newer bands out there with a lot of talent that aren't metalcore for crying out loud, which is why I have difficulty seeing this as just a "gotta give new bands a chance" sorta deal.
