My birthday is coming up this November and I think i'll ask my parents for a beer-of-the-month club type deal. That way i can get tasty brew from all over the country, and the world, delivered to my doorstep. Bad ass!

Gnoff, with how expensive alcohol is in Sweden, how do you manage to get so much? Or do you import it?

well, price differs very much depending on what type of beer it is.
It differs regarding where it's from (shipping and such), how strong it is (alcohol tax is multiplied by % volume), and of course sales price from the brewery itself.

An imported beer of fair quality tends to cost about 6-8€ per liter, about 35-45$ per gallon.

(I might mix up all measurements and cash coversions now...)

For Swedish though:
A 33 cl bottle of good quality usually cost 20-30 SEK.

We have the government monopoly Systembolaget, they carry about 240 different beers in their selection.
Also 10 times per year they release their "news of the month" of about 5-15 new beers.
They change part of their selection twice a year.

I also travel to Copenhagen now and then, they have a large selection, but good beers tend to cost a lot more there. The monoply we have at least are not trying to make a big profit...

I also go to bars that have selections not available at Systembolaget, travel alot myself, import beers, and a big part of it comes from knowing a huge bunch of other beer nerds that I sit down with and then we share rare beers we've got our hands on so that more of us can taste larger numbers of ber for less cost and with less damage to the old liver.

wow, cool to know that man. norway has a similar system of govt. monopoly on alcohol, though i think their prices are even more ridiculous. i wish i was old enough to be a beer nerd :(

I'll probably just be visiting grocery stores and grabbing what I can for cheap :p

Though I hear Sweden may have plans to cut alcohol costs?

on a side note, going to pick up some sam adams today after work.

At grocery stores you may only buy ber with up to 3.5% ABV.
There's not much good in htere, but there's some good ones.

Otherwise you need to be 20 and go to government owned Systembolaget.
