one of my main pubs and venues got closed down so I was there 3 nights running last weekend and spent most of this week recovering. That and the amount of stuff happening over the next few weeks are why I'm taking it easy at home on a Saturday night.

Governments really cracking down on pubs and nightclubs and raising licence fees and amount of security required. This place had it's hours cut back too so it lost some very profitable late night hours. They got told their licence fee was going up 500% and couldn't afford it so after 30 years the place had to shut. The local police even said the place wasn't a problem. It's a real shame. Was a local pub for many and had over 1000 bands a year. A lot of bands I know got their start there.

My other main local venue has said they're closing mid next year due to the new licence rules. This is really getting bad. Without those to venues new metal, rock, punk, heavy rock bands are really going to struggle to get gigs around here. It's sad, Melbourne is meant to be the live music capital in Aus.

Was a pretty big scene out there on Sunday. The pub only fits a bit over 300 but thousands turned out for last drinks causing a huge queue down the block and around the corner. The police ended up blocking off the intersection outside and about 2000 who couldn't get in had a street party/protest outside along with the shoulder to shoulder crowd inside. Took me about 2 hours to get in.
Was good to see so many people cared.
