Yep, some fools even considered Grunge as a form of Metal, and don't forget the worst sub-genre, Nu-metal. Glad that shit died. Though it did serve as a spring board for some fans to discover the good stuff. My nephew is an example.

yes they are, and as far as black metal is concerned, there was Venom back then, then a little later, Bathory. But venom sounds quite different than the Black metal we know now.

I never really got into Bathory though. I would say that is some ways Hellhammer and Celtic Frost had an influence on Black metal.
well it's not popular is what I meant, I don't hear about Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach and those bands anymore. I believe Korn is the only true survivor from that scene.

the newer black metal bands seem different than the older Norwegian black metal bands... like generally I don't like the old Norwegian bands besides Immortal, but newer black metal like Kampfar, Sear Bliss, Vreid, and Bergthron [discovered them recently, good stuff] is a lot more melodic... which I like

Yeah I like the newer ones as well and the newer stuff by the old bands, like Dimmu Borgir for example. The real early stuff was so badly produced and recorded that it's hard to listen to, IMO.

Same here, they could all still be active for all I know, I just don't hear anyone mention them anymore. I never followed any of those bands no have any CDs by them so I really couldn't say for sure.

well that's true, but I also think Norwegian BM had a lot more influence from death metal than today's BM
but of course it's always a great time for metal

I agree. And with that, I am saying goodbye. Time to head out of here. And blast some more of the new Immortal CD on the drive home. I think I'll pull all my other Immortal CDs out when I get home and listen to them the rest of the week.
