If you're going to try to go to Wacken next year, I'd strongly recommend HOA as well. And if you can take off another week, I'd recommend Dong too, just for the relaxed atmosphere and being able to hang out with the forum crowd that goes.

That would rule, but this will be a family European vacation, with 3-4 days out for me to go to a festival.

Cool. I'm just used to very small, intimate shows, so it might be a bit of a shock to me. Should at least be better than Wacken though, with the raised seats so you can actually see the band even if they're far away.

Well the stadium shows I've been to were much less intense than WOA. WOA is about as big as it gets crowd wise, except for maybe Rock In Rio. Yeah I'd suggest the raised seats. The unobstructed view is a plus.

lawn seats can be bad, drunk fools tripping and falling on you, blocking your view etc. People stepping on you or on your mat etc. I've had bad lawn seating experiences.

HOA is all traditional metal. Some thrash or power mixed in. Even if they don't like it as much, it could be a fun family activity anyway. Couldn't hurt to just ask them if they would be interested.

We will only have 2 weeks total, that includes time in the air going to Europe and back home. My wife wants to go to England, Italy and France, Paris to be specific.

Germany, actually it's practically right next door to Wacken. I don't even think it's 30mins away by train. Extremely convenient.

And though Wacken might not be the safest for a 13yr old, I wouldn't expect any problems with it at HOA. Actually I saw a girl there last year who looked to be about 7.
