Flying 15 hours, half way across the world here. I count 5 bands that I personally don't want to miss... everything else ranges from "good to see" to "i'd rather nap in my tent".

Yeah dude, I have a similar scenario, travelling from Canada and a small number I DON'T want to miss while everything else ranges from "good to see" to "i'd rather nap in my tent".
I'n not discouraged because I'm still excited as fuck for WACKEN 2018 !!!! \m/ O \m/

But now I'm on sick leave (actually an incapacity to work for more than 66%) See how long that will last!

well I don't think wacken is that expensive. even though it's expensive compared to other festivals.

well I actually think the past few years it has been a bit disappointing
usually the bands I wanna see get announced outside of the calendar.
With like 2 or 3 bands in the calendar that I want to see.

Yeah I know what you mean.
after 8 years straight I had a 2 year break.
This will be my 5th year in a row again.
No sure if I'll go back in 2019.

Hello there!
I like the way that Wacken use the calendar to announce bands. Gives each morning a touch of anticipation and is different from other festivals.
Though like previous posters, the announcements over the last week or so have been a little disappointing.

Die Apokalyptischen Reiter and Korpiklaani however had me dancing round the office.
