In Queensland you can only buy alcohol at liquor stores/licensed venues. Imagine my astonishment when I found out you can buy beer from a vending machine in places like Germany!

Yeah for me it was bit weird too when I went to Germany the first time seeing all those strong liquors and all in a normal grocery store. In Finland grocery stores are only allowed to sell beer and cider and long drink...

Oh I wonder how late you can buy alcohol from stores in different countries? In here you can buy alcohol from stores from 7am to 9pm, but in the weekends shops close at 6pm.

in scotland from 10am to 10pm any day. england is 24hrs any day because up north we're all alcoholic bastards...

The surprised face of LooseCannon (an old user here) when we went to Germany by train, and I bought a beer from a vending machine in Brussels Midi/Zuid station.

Though I've never seen vending machines in Germany selling beer! (or any alcohol for that matter) That does not mean they're not there, it just means I've not paid attention enough.

24/24, 7/7. The night shops can provide you during night times.

the student home where my friend lived had a vending machine that sold beer. don't think any public ones do though...

Same in Germany, though 'night shops' ('Spätis') only exist in bigger cities. In smaller towns you go to the gas station shops ('Tanke') that will sell any kind of alcohol, all night, though often not to the best prices. But there is no general law that alcohol can't be sold at certain times.

..but in Baden-Würtemberg itˋs forbidden to sell alcohol between 10 pm-6am at gas station shops.
