I was wondering how you all get to Wacken from the UK. I am hoping to go for the first time this year but was wondering if it worth going with argon direct of making my own way.

Basically I wont to go as simply and cheaply as possible.

Making your own arrangements might be a bit cheaper, but travelling with Argon is a lot easier in my opinion - all you have to do is book it up and wait until the festival begins, at which point a coach will pick you up and whisk you away to the festival site :)

£150 isn't bad for transport there and back, including your festival ticket, and you get to meet lots of people as well. So as you can probably guess, I go with Argon.

Go Argon! Woo!

You get loads of people with Argon, I think last year it was 3 coach loads.

@Carphathian_Wolf: Yeah, its quite a long time, and I almost decided to travel on my own this year because of that. But now I've decided that I'm actually looking forward to the journey in a strange kind of way, there's something enjoyable about travelling on a coach full of metalheads watching GWAR videos and drinking whiskey, oddly enough, I can't really explain why though :)

i travelled with argon about 3 years ago and while getting there was ok, coming home was a complete nightmare. you're hungover and just wanna get home!!

went with ryanair last year, which takes you about an hour outside of hamburg to lubeck, this year going with air berlin (booked at opodo.co.uk airberlins site kept faffing up!) to hamburg airport for £37.50 return..bargain!!!

i noticed argon are doing a long ferry crossing to hamburg this year, meaning you dont get there till friday afternoon...doesn' that mean you'll miss half the festival??

i'm also going for the first time this year, i would have gone with argon, but the fact that you miss so much put me off.

i've heard about people having problems with some of the budget airlines saying they'll send tents over on the next flight and then not doing so, have any of you experienced this problem?

the tent fiasco happened last year with ryanair to some of the people who flew with us. with budget airlines i'd say the best advice is to turn up early for check in and make sure your luggage is well packed and well labelled..then there shouldn't be any probs. would also get some insurance though

with argon when i went we were promised being there by 1pm on the thurs and really got there about 6. maybe its just me i'm just not a fan of the coach!!

Argon has the perennial problem of forgetting that there's actually a third day to the festival. Anyone who picks their hotel option gets screwed royally (that was an extra $200 I did NOT need to spend), because they drop you off at the hotel on Thursday and then don't get you to the festival until the next morning. With Running Wild playing Thursday next year...noooooo fucking way! :D

That aside, if you don't go for the hotel and take the coach instead of the ferry, the Argon package is a great way of simplifying the whole trip.

Also, there's something to be said for a long bus ride with a bunch of drunk bastards on the way to Wacken. It's a lot of fun (puking Welsh notwithstanding). Which is why I'll probably be doing the same thing I did last year - flying in to London and meeting up with Argon.
