Eh, I don't know in which country you were brought up, but I have never had 5/5 as a holiday, except in a lustrum year. Must've been in the mid 70s then.

Not that I am aware of. It just happened to compensate for the loss of Queen's Day, which was always on a weekend. And since it was just 5 days later, I reckon this was the best solution. Except in 2010, where Koninginnedag was a Friday, and 5/5 a Wednesday.

Het kwam toevallig steeds goed uit als compensatie voor een Koninginnedag in het weekend. Alleen 5 jaar geleden ging het mis.

It happens on occasion. Luckily, I was meant to have a late meeting, so technically I was only 10 minutes late, although I normally start quite early
