There wasn't any hands cleaning station ? Usually there is the fountain thingy that you pump water with your foot and you can clean your hands.

For the sound I guess it depends on where you're standing for the shows, I can't recall a moment where I thought the sound was awful. Maybe the wind has something to do with it too?

There were disinfectants outside the flushable toilets, nearby the water taps, but nothing at or nearby the toilets infield.

Positioning had little effect on the sound in my opinion. At Behemoth we stood about 10m from the center of the stage (I wanted to be close, as they are one of my favorite bands), a little further back at Judas Priest, and at Gojira we stood at the roof plateu of the Monster bar. At Steel Panther I was way back on the other side of the fences.

Ah ok I see, can't remember those in the infield, the problem can be solved with a small desinfectant bottle in your pocket.

That sucks for the sound, I don't understand why it was that bad

the reality is, toilets will always be dirty, but they are a whole lot better than they used to be when I first came to wacken. If you don't like it, either prepare yourself better and bring your own cleaning stuff, accept it, or just don't come. And I mean to say that in the most polite way.

sound in a open field is always hard, it can even change from day to day or from hour to hour.
During dimmu borgir sometimes they started a song and the sound was great, and 30 seconds later there would be some wind and it sounded like crap, here too the answer is, either accept it, or just stay home.

A lot faster since a few years I guess
How come you're undecided?

This year it felt like "the pain vs the gain" wasn't that much in favour of "gain".
For a big part that was due to the ridiculously high temperatures and scorching sun.
But I also feel that after 13 wackens I just don't really care that much any more.
This year I didn't meet any forum members besides the one I was traveling with, and I didn't make any new friends otherwise.
That for me used to be a big part of wacken. all in all, I'm not sure if it'll be worth it.
Maybe I just need a break, I did that before and got back being a bit more excited again.

Yeah I understand, sadly there is not much people on the international forum who wanna meet, or not much people period.

Maybe you need a break indeed, but the timing isn't the best since it's the 30th coming up :p

Yeah ofc. It was our first time there and had I known the conditions before we went, I wouldve brought bottles with me. I guess its all about experience, like everything else in life.

Open air fields are tricky, so maybe I'll stick to indoor gigs from now on. Like I said in one of my previous posts, I dont know if Im cut out for this type of festival. The dust was insane, and everyone I talked to said the heat was 10 times better than rain and 20 cm of mud - and I believe them, I cant even imagine how terrible that must be lol.

BUT despite all of this, I had a great time. It truly is amazing to be around 80k other metalheads, and 98% of the people I talked to, headbanged with, drank beer with and shouted WACKEN! to were awesome humans. Us metalheads are the nicest people. We even got to know a few merch sellers that were also from Norway, sat in their shop and drank beer and talked black metal till 0430 in the morning, haha.

well there's mud and there's mud.
They mud of 3 years ago I would no pick over the dust and heat of this year.
But would easily pick last years mud over this years dust and heat.
