I have no idea, to be honest. People aren't even allowed to bring their own booze/water inside the venue, so we have to smuggle tiny 90ml bottles in weird ways

the forum autocorrects? I never realised. but with the double dotted i is how it would be written in dutch actually
so maybe in german as well.

Some venues provide free water here as well, but that's rare. Water at venues is about 8-10 times the price compared to the price I would get it for, outside.

There's something to do with the responsible service of alcohol laws that at some point, they have to provide it if they're asked (or something like that). When there's a door price to get into a venue there's no good excuse not to have it

Many venues here provide free water, but not all of them give it to just anyone. I hate it when I ask for water, then they crack open a bottle and give tell me it's some outrageous price. I haven't had that happen to me in years thankfully.

The only place I have ever had to pay for water was Europe honestly. Here it's a standard thing to get a glass of water in any restaurant with your meal. At most they will charge you the price of the cup if you only want water to drink. I drink a TON of water so needless to say it was very expensive for me to be there.
