It was alright, unfortunately we had a little issue and weren't happy with how they resolved it. There was a beer on the menu "Nostradamus" which was described as a 'rousse' (red) so we ordered it. It turns out that the bottle specifically states 'brun' (brown) which isn't at all what we wanted. I don't care for brown beers as I find them far too malty for me. When we brought it to the attention of the girl we were told that "in French they just use 'rousse' to describe the COLOR of the beer" I have never heard of this before.. So I was not at all happy to have paid 10$ for a bottle of beer expecting a red and getting a brown. I don't know if we will return there honestly.

She's a liar!

A "rousse" indicates a darkish redish colour. Not like brown which is "brun" ("brune"). Even if she may think differently.

Well this is what I said.. Regardless of the fact, the beer was not a red - the bottle even called it brown not to mention it definitely was a brown flavor. YOu see why we probably won't go back. They refused to change the beer and told us they were going to charge us for it regardless.

I always find it troublesome when people who know NOTHING about beer, start working with beer.

I went to this pub (Den Extra in Lier Belgium) and the owner is doing ti all by himself, but he knows what he's talking about. The first thing I always ask him (if I'm there, as it's more than 100km from where I live, it's rare I go there) is: "Wat heb je?"(what'd you have?)
And.. he's always got rare beers on the tap! A special beer from "Malheur" yesterday, which I lost its name. Jammie! :p

Wow.. that sucks!

But, at least, it was a good beer according to ratebeer :

.. and speaking of beer.

Quark, have you ever been to Staminee de Garre pub in Bruges ?

In 2008, I was lucky enough to find this small pub. Really good beer.

<-- My avatar picture was taking on a terasse in Tienen (Tirlemont) with a glass of Westmall...

Damn, I want to go back to Belgium....

Staminee de Garre? Never heard of it.

Well, a day excursion is in progress then. Bruges isn't that far. (though more than 2hrs)

And I have never been in Tienen (Tirlemont) either. That's also in the making.

What about next year? When you're going to/coming back from Wacken, that should be possible!

Tienen was unplanned because it was sunday and we missed the bus to Hoegaarden (every 2h...). So, I had to go grab a drink while wating for the next bus.

Next year... We still wondering where to go... We started to check the plane ticket (roundtrip) and every destination east of Netherlands the price is 1300$+ with a connection flight... (My price range is around 1000$ (x3)). Germany was an option since I will have to finish with Wacken. We don't know yet. We would love to go to scandinavian country but again, out of price plane ticket with connections...

Initially, I wanted to visit all Abbey in Belgium. But this is exhausting since we have to go all over the country.

 ... still undecided...

Tja...

And not all abbeys are open for the public either. If I'm correct, the Abbey of Rochefort and Chimay e.g. are not open, the Abbey of Achel is.

What we normally ended up doing was flying into Paris and out from Brussels (but I think it's about 1200$) We checked Hamburg round trip a couple of weeks ago and it was only 900$ so that might work for you. Bob wants to go back to Wacken badly, but not this year - maybe 2015.

900!! I checked with expedia and it's 1048$ which is not bad but with a connection (I guess we don'T have a choice). I will wait 2-3 weeks because dates in august 2014 are not available yet.
