Pro tip for pro #4: if you don't have insurance, health care costs a LOT :o I wonder how much I could have saved if I remembered to bring my Medicare card from home (I'm pretty sure there's a reciprocal agreement between us, although I might not have saved on the ambulance...)

You still might benefit from it, but you'd have to ask all medical bills from that period, and reclaim them at your home insurance.
The advantage of Belgian health insurance, it's written in the chip in your ID card. Desadvantage, it can only be read by the Belgian health insurance. :KO:

But that's why we carry a European health insurance card with us. In case, I can call a phone number, and ask what to do. Had to use it last year, as we went to Eurodisney. The general doctor in France wanted €90(!) for his visit. :eek:

I got most of it back with my travel insurance (the difference being in the exchange rate when converted back to $$), but with all the hoops I had to jump through, I was better off dealing with it when I got home. I blew a week's budget that day :o
