Long time bearded person here 
Had to spend some time in hospital this year and they made me shave it off though, it was a pitty because it was probably my best (biggest) beard ever. If I had of kept it, would have been a good 4-5 inches longer by now. Ahh well, it all grows back, so its only been growing again for a couple of months. (grows about an inch a month).
