And Metalway just confirmed Axxxis, Sodom and... Lauren Harris! Strange? Well, Maiden canceled metalway's gig last year and no one get Lauren Harris to a metalfest unless they are forced by Maiden!

If Wacken isn't as good as Metalway I will be fucking pissed!

No way to become this amazing anymore, I think.

I always wonder whether the orga reads the forum or not. I guess they don't because otherwise they would have made a statement.....
Don't they care about their fans/customers or did they simply fucked up with the booking and don't want to admit that? I'll go to Wacken and to Summerbreeze as well but the current Wacken billing certainly lacks Headliners and cool bands...

I dunno about those bands playing metalway i dont think its really all that hot to be honest, I think Wacken's line up is looking like it could be equally as strong, I mean really all Metalway have over wacken is maybe 4-5 major bands?

Man'o'war
Immortal
Blind Guardian
Apocalyptica
Dark tranquility (though having seen these live I am disgusted that they didn't sing live on at least our show at the UK tour - lip synching in metal!)
Opeth
CoB
Warlock

An really it is possible I think that Wacken could secure those bands, otherwise if you look at the Line up there and take out the bands I've just mentioned how good does it look then??? Not very I think.

No
Machine Head
Turisas
Korpiklaani
Borknagar
Dragonforce
GWAR
HammerFall
Kampfar
Tracedawn
Nevermore
Napalm Death
Lacuna Coil
Airbourne (I can only presume the guy who slated them hasn't seen them live before cos at wacken in 2008 they blew the crowd away from everything i saw and heard and on their UK tour they really did play fantastic sets with packed venues)

So really I think bad comparison even with Wackens weakened line up we're getting the better deal.

Give it another month or two, there's still time for plenty of bands to be added and they will be, I dont think the organisers really got to the 20th anniversary without having an idea how to run the show.

All will be revealed soon though hopefully cos I am getting sick of waiting, also some of the people who're coming with us are getting less and less sure about it  Airbourne has made them happier too though so thats good.

errr, not that good?! Let me remind you that the big names in the Wacken line-up (Heaven & Hell, Motorhead, Amon Amarth and now they say Stratovarius and Saxon) are there aswell with the exception of Testament and Machine Head! And the amount of filler in there is minimal, quite the opposite of Wacken!! And more, the line-up is pretty diverse, the only thing missing is folk...

From all those names you listed, only a couple can beat this:

Blind Guardian
Wasp
Samael
Sodom
Opeth
Paradise Lost
Warlock
Manowar
Immortal
Candlemass
Moonspell
Dark Tranquillity
Destruction

C'mon, be serious! The bands I've listed are all Major Bands in their respective metal genres while the bands you are trying to compare aren't, only a couple...

That is the problem! Most of us don't have a month or two, we have to pay planes/buses, take vacations from work, make some other decisions that have to be made in a very short time!

Ah I dont have this problem I booked flights hotels travel and holidays off etc last year lol i think in November I had everything booked and sorted an my tickets. Although I have now lost my job, so its good i was prepared (bloody credit crunch!) Though if I get a new job I think they have to honour the time booked off... I hope cos i'm going sweden for a week after wacken lol.

But yes if you need to book time off book flights etc then maybe it will be a problem, but I think its safe to have it all booked already because as much as we may moan about the line up etc we all know Wacken will be brilliant, and like was said a page or two ago, once your sat at wacken drinking beer with your friends you really wont care! :D

The cost thing as well its still really cheap when compared to UK festivals like Download where its £150 a ticket an you get worse bands and £3.50 a pint beer that is always flat and watery, an you have to que for like 30mins just to get served! but you also have to que to get a token first its a disaster!!! so you have to buy like 3-4 pints at a time then u gotta carry them :( much better getting a litre at wacken!! an taking the plastic glasses home with you loooooooooool my whole kitchen is full of plastic wacken cups!

You listed exactly 3 bands that I actually would watch, I either think that the rest is boring or I don't know them.
This is why I think that this thread is absolute nonsense and bullshit. It's all about personal taste. I like the current line-up a lot, just missing a little Death Metal.

But that is your taste, I was talking about major bands in their respective genres! Or you think there's something equivalent to Opeth or Candlemass in Wacken's line-up? Or Immortal?

First: Wacken was never known to invite any "major" bands and never really did until 3 years ago. It was rather known to be famous without any big bands or headliners.

Second: If I don't like a band , then I don't give a shit, if a band is a "major" band or whatever.

Third: If a band is not a major band or a band you don't like, that does not mean, that it is a bad billing, it only does not match your personal taste.

I have the feeling that a lot of people are expecting something from the WOA what it just never was. ahh Maiden was there before, uhh, it's the 20th anniversary now so we need something even more mindblowing to be satisfied. We only want big names, we only want the pioneers from each style, because TV told me, that it is the biggest Metal-Festival in the World.
I think that is the wrong attitude, and the wrong attitude for music in general. I even think that the current line-up is almost to "famous" for a WOA. There only is Death Metal missing to complete my requests. I would be happy if there were Nervecell and Bolt Thrower, but ohh I'm sorry, these aren't major bands.

I'm sorry if you feel offended, but I am quite fed up with the attitude in this thread in general...

Edit: This reminds me of a saying from my mother-tongue:
Now that you held out your finger, they want to rip off your arm.
Which means in this case, that nobody is satisfied anymore, no matter what's coming, beeing spoiled because of a few cookies from the last years or other festivals. How come that nobody recognizes a quite magnificent billing? Sure there are 50 other bands I would like to see, but I can't expect them to be at Wacken when I want. I even admit that none of these bands is one of my favourites that I listen to every day. But it doesn't mean that it's bad!!
If you don't like the billing, then I accept that, but don't generalize and call it a bad festival. Then go to Metalway or somewhere else that you like more.

O RLY? My first Wacken was at 2002 (7 years ago) and check out this list: Destruction, My Dying Bride, Immortal, Cannibal Corpse, Hypocrisy, Dying Fetus, Macabre, Kreator, Onkel Tom, Haggard. Is this in-your-face-stunning line-up or isn't it? How hard it for the org to come up something like that this year as well?

Cannibal Corpse would be the only major band in my opinion, because everybody knows them, even if they don't listen to Death Metal.
For the other bands, I think that you need to be specifically interested in that kind of music, to know them. But you see, that even this discussion is based on subjective impressions...
