„A close experience of the viking-culture” is the theme, presenting sensational show-fights, weapon expertise, weapon museum, very authentical handcraft as forging, chain mail-creation and horn-graving.
Wacken-fans will enjoy jugglery, fascinating flambeau-shows, “viking-shamans”, viking-fights, which sometimes can end up in duels by proving skills in archery, javeling and axe throwing or in vikings’ trial in courage, in order to proof how brave a Wacken-fan is.

The Camp Of Knight-Army

The „Evne“-people with more than 150 knights, precious madams, knaves and mades as well as craftmen, countrymen, traiders, jugglers and players, moncs and flaghoppers are holding court in WACKEN!
At “The Wackingers” you will discover a great army-camp of the “Evne”-people, aiming to show you the “vivid middle ages”.
The army-camp of the “Evne”-people contains more than 40 tents and ca.150 actors, from infants the aged.
Struggles and jousts will be carried on, an extra highlight offered by knights with swordplays will re-enact the battle of Worringen, with which they already gained much of furore.
But taking pride in acient arts and traditions enfolds much more: courtly dance, eating and drinking bout (the so called camp-life) and a local “Bruchenball”-cup (the precursor of Soccer and Rugby).
The Bruchenball-game ist rooted in apprenticeship of knaves to knights. The sense of the game was to enable the knave to rescue his lord during a battle, when injured. They’d sew a sack from cowhide and put the fir cones inside, which had a weight of 140 kg. This game was so poplular that, that more and more injuries happened.
First the participants had been checked up for weapons, but the situation didn’t get really better due to the huge creativity of the perticipants. They decided to control the hiding places for weapons. Thus, from 12th century on they played wearing only the typical long underwear, called “Bruche”. But this fact didn’t realy exclude injuries by the usual punches.
Nowadays the sacks are sewed by leashes and are filled with hey or cloth strips.

We can present you the Highland Games at W:O:A!
If musclemen wear kilts – if they got a determined and fearless facial expression – if they lift heavy stone-balls on a platform – if they roll vats and flip weights in the air or if they shoulder a 5,70 m long trunk and carry it throuh a slalom-area of pales – then it’s time for HIGHLAND GAMES.
For years a group called “Lowlander” from Redensburg presents the Highland Games succesfully in the whole country. They will present different disciplines at “The Wackinger”.
Primary these disciplines arised to find the strongest man in the village (clan). Then this guy had to serve as an bodyguard to the clan-chief or had to lead the whole clan into a battle.
Based on the original games from Scotland, the athlets match in the most different disciplines.
Because of the tradition everybody wears an ancient kilt, which were handmade with an eye for detail.
The combination of power, endurance and skills make the Higland Games that interesting and diversified .
At the games the fans of Wacken can show, how much a „man“ they are and how they look like compared to the “Heavies”.
