Well, Slayer seems to be apart of the same tour as BFMV here in the States. I suppose it's possible for them to make it but I wouldn't say it's too likely, I don't even think BFMV is going to have the ability to make it with that tour, which I have to say I'll probably be glad if that happens. And, if it helps you feel better, Slayer isn't going to the New England Metal Fest which has such a shitty lineup it could make just about everything look good.

I've never seen the type of people you (Canuck) speak of at folk metal shows here. Sure, most of the people are a bit small in physical size most of the time, but, for the most part, in my experience (I've seen folk metal bands in 3 different states) the people attracted to those bands from my experiences absolutely hate the emo, hardcore and nu-metal shit with very few exception, unless you count the Turisas show where they opened for Dragonforce, which was full of kids who thought it to be perfectly fine to try to strangle people in a mosh pit. I'm more concerned over people who are going for BFMV and Dragonforce than the people going for Turisas or Korpiklaani.

There's a lot of bands already that I'm going to love seeing a second/third/fourth time (Testament, Amon Amarth, Turisas, Korpiklaani) and there's some I've been dying to see for ages (Borknagar, Einherjer, Enslaved, Saxon) that I haven't ever had the chance to see yet. So I'm really as much disappointed in the lineup so much, more on the fact that I locked into airfare in January and it's dropped $400 since, which has absolutely nothing to do with anybody.

I think you've misunderstood me. As I said I actually am a fan of both Turisas and Korpiklaani, have seen them in the past and plan to see them again at Wacken this year. However, from my experiences of seeing them in Canada there is an increasing number of people showing up at the shows of more popular folk metal bands that are the same types of people that typically enjoy stuff like Dragonforce as well as a lot of metalcore and so on. For example, last year at Paganfest in Toronto there seemed to be an abundance of people there in Slipknot t-shirts who honestly wouldn't look out of place at such a concert. Its the same thing for Amon Amarth concerts that pass through these days a well as anything in the realm of folk/viking/melodeth. It seems to be quite popular among gamers and the typical guitar hero types, and that has reflected in recent shows on the side of the ocean, anyways.

My main point is that by putting bands on the bill that these type of people are typically attracted to (Dragonforce, Bullet For My Valentine etc.) then its far more likely that they'll be turning up since they are also taking more to folk metal as its a far more accessible genre of metal than anything more extreme than that. Not sure if I'm making myself all too clear, but hopefully you get what I'm saying.

I pretty much understood, but I was a bit confused because I guess it hasn't crossed into the places I've been at this point. Paganfest here, considering it took place at the New England Metal and Hardcore festival, was full of great people and very few of those types which was very surprising. Same with when I went to Chicago Powerfest and saw Paganfest, and most recently Pennsylvania to see the Pagan Knights tour. I have heard of it, but I've never witnessed it and really don't care to. I'm hoping Paganfest this year follows the trend of that bunch not being there.

I agree they shouldn't encourage them to come by having the billing have bands like Dragonforce and BFMV. I've even heard those groups tend to just cause trouble. Wasn't there a big issue with them blowing up toilets last year and people ended up hurt? Why on earth would the organizers want that?

Perhaps the age is a factor, I'm 37 years old, and my favorite Genere is Old School ( i mean thrash, death, black from 80's and early 90's) but my second favorite genere is Pagan/Folk/Viking Metal, in fact also i like some "happy metal bands" like old Sonata Arctica, Dragonfroce, old Nightwish, classic heavy metal bands (Judas, Maiden, Sabbath etc.) I like almost kind of metal, except Metalcore/Nu Metal (i really hate it)

Perhaps if i were 18 - 20 years old, and if i like Pagan/Folk/Viking, perhaps i would like also metalcore/Nu Metal bands... and the old school bands would be totally unknow for me,.

not necessarily...
I'm 18 and like mostly Pagan/Folk/Viking/Black metal... but really just about every kind of metal, including older stuff [way back to Zeppelin, Sabbath, Maiden, etc, and almost everything in between]
but except for a few particular songs from certain bands, I don't like metalcore and nu metal... and definately don't want them at Wacken.

But there's always somebody who wants them.
As goes for almost every genre in the (metal) music.

So...

I'm 19 (20 in June), I love folk/viking/pagan metal, I can't stand metalcore/nu metal bands and I have a high appreciation for the more old school bands, my friends around my age see things the same way.

I can well respect and understand having a very diverse lineup, but to what seems to be exchange death and black metal for bands like BFMV and BMTH is kind of insulting. Hell, there's probably at least one person hoping for Britney Spears or New Found Glory to be announced, but I don't see that coming anytime soon, at least god I hope not.

I'm hoping for Eluveitie and Equilibrium of that bunch. If the two of them go I'll be very very happy. Regardless of how much shit I've gotten recently for it I'm in love with both of them. Gravedigger is good too, just I'm not usually in the mood for them for some reason.

As long as they announce it before I leave the States for Europe on July 23rd I won't care. I don't know if I'll bother bringing my laptop. It's a piece of shit, but every piece of shit I've owned that I needed recently has been stolen, even my cd player held together by duct tape.

Yes i like them...
More rumors DEVILDRIVER :( , J.B.O., RUNNING WILD , SONIC SYNDICATE , U.D.O., UK SUBS , BREED77 , ETHS , DER W , RETROSPECT , DRONE , BAI BANG:confused:

i really really hope will be just rumors :(

From what I've heard of much of that list, I hope for goodness sakes they are too otherwise I'm going to need to work a lot more overtime hours for beer money. My theory still stands they are releasing not-so-great bands because they want to sell more beer, even though too much alcohol and bad music just leads to an odd sense of confusion with me.
