8h from IZ to Ehv.
where IZ = Itzehoe
where Ehv = Eindhoven
:D

Exactly the same for me. See ya in the train ;)

Overall I'm not impressed with the lineup as well. I'm leaving America and going to Wacken to get away from bands like BMTH and BFMV who seem to dominate the "metal" festivals here. I mean BMTH.....

Last year people said exactly the same thing about Killswitch Engaged and As I lie Dying and, in my opinion, they were some of the best performances. I admit that the audience in wacken is less and less "metalhead" every year, but it is still the best metal audience in Europe. Don't worry about making the trip from the US, it will be all worthed.

Needless to say, I am also disappointed with the line-up so far. But Wacken is more than a line-up.

last.fm rumors include...Grave Digger, Edguy, and Unleashed. 3 great bands IMO...CONFIRM THOSE!!!!

I believe more in jesus than in lastfm, and I'm an atheist.

I also like Loco's signature block - I would take all of them.

Thanks man, maybe we are lucky and get to see some of those bands in the festival.

After a few days of letting the big letdown sunk in, I've actually started to see that I kinda like the Line up:eek:

(amon the bands on the billing)

Bands that I rly like:
  • Aribourne
  • Amon Amarth
  • Einherjer
  • Heaven & Hell
  • In Flames
  • Korpiklaani
  • Testament
  • Turisas

Other bands that I'd enjoy seeing thats also among the billing bands:
  • Volbeat
  • Machine Head
  • Motörhead
  • HammerFall
  • Epica
  • DragonForce
  • Axel Rudi Pell

The only few bands that I'd like to see on the billing would be Blind Guardian, Elvenking, Manowar, Ensiferum and Wintersun. Apart from them not being booked yet I'm saying this is quite a decent lineup already :)

So too much negative talk here, though some of u BM or DM ppl might still have som justified whine

Most of the whining is because some of us were expecting something really special for the 20th Anniversary. And that is not happening. But you are right, so far the line up is not bad... if they bring another headliner.

About your list, don't you like Nevermore?

Ye I can agree with that 20th anniversary should be something really special.
Nevermore, never heard of them actually. Thanks for the tip I'll check them out.

Part of the disappointment I think is the hype the organization created at the start. To say the 20th Anniversary is the "Best of" well, if it's not the "best" then obviously people are going to be just a little bit aggravated.

I don't think people would be frustrated at all if more bands that don't tour everywhere were announced, just because that's what seems to happen. This year is supposed to be the best, why is the lineup kind of pathetic compared to other festivals? 20th Anniversary is supposed to blow the other festivals away.

The lineup is pretty good, I'm liking it, but I can sort of see where the complaints are coming from, especially from the people who are big on death and black metal. Where the hell is it?

Maybe after the Wacken Rocks stuff they'll get good bands announced.

The lineup is only "good" if you have a particular love for the "big" bands of the folk/viking scene, melodeth, progressive, metalcore, or groove metal in general that are really geared towards the same fans when you think about it. There are some decent old school bands on the bill, yeah, but overall its over shadowed by the above. Personally, I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with folk metal as I like it myself its more the rest that, in addition to the bigger bands of the folk genre, tends to attract a certain kind of people.

Personally, out of the lineup so far I'm only really excited to see Whiplash, I think. I'm very curious to check out Sarke, to tell the truth. I'll definitely be going to see Korpiklaani and Turisas that is for sure, as they are fucking awesome live bands and the amuse the hell out of me(its only what I said above that, at least in my experience, many of the people attracted to the above seem to be showing up in these kinds of shows too...so if you give them both then double of those types will end up showing up:p). I'll also likely be seeing Kampfar as they were pretty decent last time.

But given the current billing that leaves me rather unexcited I guess I will also be checking out Endstille, Enslaved (old material great...but not sure how I feel about seeing them live based on the new material), Einherjer and Napalm Death (which isn't all that exciting since I think every metalhead in the world has managed to see Napalm Death about ten million times without actually trying :p)

And well, Saxon is Saxon:p

Ok so I have about two bands that I've never seen that I'm quite exicted about, two bands that I've seen before but are always great fun to see live, and the rest that I'll be seeing just because there is nothing better so far. Am I paying nearly 200 Canadian dollars to see bands that I would not actually pay for a ticket to see them live under non-Wacken circumstances?:p Actually, when you look at it there are actually almost literally no black metal, death metal, or thrash metal bands. It's not that we "may" have something to complain about, but rather that this year's festival seems to be dedicated to, excuse my french, watered down piss:eek: (Before complaining please see: Dragonforce, Bullet for My Valentine, Walls of Jericho, Callejon, Kingdom of Sorrow, Lacuna Crap, Epicrap, Machine Head etc. etc. I mean seriously, what is this crap?). Even though I am only really a "big" fan of a handful of traditional heavy metal bands, I would rather have an entire festival made up of them and no extreme stuff than have a festival full of rather shitty, shitty "metal" (if some of that even qualifies, for crying out loud) any day of the week.

Honestly, when I see people who were complaining before just give and say "well, I guess its not so bad" I can't help but feel that they're only saying this because they're giving up hope and just settling for second/third/furthest from first rate bands. I mean, I suppose the lineup is alright if I want to spend the week surrounded by a horde of emos and not hear any good bands blasting at any point in time from off in the distance, or have the opportunity to see good bands:p

[/rant]

And yeah, despite my whining I'm still sitting here waiting for the next updates with my fingers glued crossed:p

NJ "garbage state"
As far as Im concerned Im only going to see IN Flames (so far). The rest I could give or take. Other than that whats a major metal fest as big as "Wacken" supposedly is, without SLAYER?? Slayer shows up to every other crappy 'fest' in every part of the states yet they arent at this festival. They have never been a band to demand sick money either. How f*kn lame..

I've never seen, and i really want to see it:
Borknagar
Einherjer
Kampfar
Sarke
Whiplash

I seen before and i would like to see it again:
Amon Amarth
Cathedral
Dragonforce
Epica
Heaven and hell
In Extremo
In Flames
Korpiklaani
Lacuna Coil
Motorhead
Testament
Turisas

"Unknown bands" i've never heard about it:
BFMV
Callejon
KoS
Tracedawn
Volbeat

Rest of the bands i don't care if i see it or not.

The actual billing is not so bad, but is very far away to be a "killer billing" for a 20th anniversary, and yes.. is pathetic in comparsion with other similar fest.
