Nah it's not that. Just nobody's perfect. Even I wouldn't trust myself to edit someone else's paper perfectly, though I consider myself better than most people at grammar, spelling, etc. (in English obviously)

The coast always gets the worst of it. And not just because of the storm surges (the massive waves that flood the shores). Hurricanes weaken significantly once they're on land. Germany's not on the coast (at least, not in the south) so even if it was a hurricane when it hit the coast, by the time it hit Germany, it was probably just heavy rain and wind at worst.

Not to say that that's nothing - it can definitely get pretty bad. But it's always going to be way worse on the coast.
