How do I say "My German sucks?" Though with my luck I'd try saying that and actually say "Germany sucks" or something like that and get beaten.

Common misconception when you speak English, people assume.. Happens to me all the time which sucks because Americans don't have the best reputation overseas

I find that it helps to be an engaged listener. Even if you don't understand all the time, the person talking appreciates the effort
