It's more cynical than that. The previous state government worked up an enormous debt (they became so unpopular that they only won something ridiculous like 7 seats in parliament), and the current government has been working far too hard at getting the budget back, focusing on little else so it seems. That means (amongst other things), lots of voluntary redundancies and some involuntary ones too. The service can afford more involuntary redundancies about as much as they can afford to close more beds :o

Yeah that's shit. It's really sad when a government can rack up a huge debt and then just casually transfer it over to the taxpayers to deal with in the form of austerity and cutting services. The whole world is going that way and I hate to see what it will be in a few years.

One of the reasons I went on the streets (yet again) today.

I don't mind enterprises making profit, but as long as they can EASILLY avaid taxes, that's where it's going COMPLETELY wrong!

And we all know most multinationals don't do anything else but to avoid taxes.

In Europe alone, the so called lost tax income is estimated at (don't be scared!!!) 14,000,000,000,000US$

Exactly. The big corporations get away free from any responsibility while the citizens pay for their bailouts and tax breaks.

I know. It's similar over here though probably not as high. If a corporation is going to insist it has the same rights as a citizen then it should also have the right to pay the same taxes! They all complain that if they have to pay more tax they will not be able to make jobs but..where are these jobs? They aren't making anything but more profit from what I can see.

Voilà!

And without the base, no profit! And without consumers, no income either. Nor for the enterprises, nor for the state (via VAT/Sales Tax/etc)

So....
