I never really learned grammar in English class...mostly we just studied literature. Grammar i learned from reading stuff I guess.

I stepped in tho because people seemed to be telling her otherwise, that she was wrong or something...which she wasn't.

Well its like...I didn't really thoroughly read a lot of what other people had said about it, too long and in other languages and stuff So its just better for her, i think, to say, hey, keep on doin it the way that you were.

The fact is we don't use what the Germans call the 'Konjunktiv' form anymore really, it's not a verb tense but rather a verb mood. So even though it may not be always gramatically correct to say 'if it was...' you're gonna sound more like an english-speaker if you use that.

No need to disclaim...while you were using those online translators and stuff, you were making yourself think about things, and guaranteed, if you look through that thread that Q posted, you'll see somethings you remember.
