O yeah, Kris, the ë is not called an Umlaut, but trema.

Like in the Dutch word for Belgium. België.

It sais that that vowel should be pronounced seperately instead of a diftong.(?)

Umlaut is only possible on the letters a, o and u (ä, ö, ü. Ä, Ö, Ü)

Tremas aren't mostly not placed on capitals but that may vary. (except the ÿ, it knows no capital on my keyboard)
