Yes, I was on a bit of a bender after The Tote closed. That was one of Melbourne's most important venues/pubs. Caused quite a bit of a stir in newspapers and on radio. There was about 2 or 3000 protesting outside the pub on the last day as well as the full house inside. Was good to see it got so much recognition. Had been having bands 6 nights a week for around 30 years.

It gets worse. We're also losing The Arthouse which is the only other really good metal/rock/punk type venue in the city. Their lease expies in May next year. They've been open every day except Xmas and New Years Day for 20 years. I played my first show there. Can't count how many aesome Oz and overseas bands I've seen there.
Losing there two i about a year is going to remove 2 vital organs in the Melbourne music scene. Shows are going to be a lot more underground.
