Well to me they're way less basic. Plus they all mean "think", but they specify in what way you're "thinking" of something. Like "in my opinion" means something else than "I guess". Yet you'd use "I think" in both cases. It's mostly about that we're supposed to become translators and if you want to really get the meaning of what someone tried to say in another language, you need a very wide vocabulary to express yourself.

yeah I can see that they mean differend things.
but with basic english knowlage you should be able to use them all.

But I guess you're teacher mend it more like it's a to basic description of what you were doing with your thoughts then.
