I've got lots of friends that I just call by their nicknames.
Even colleagues actually.

Wenn mich einer IcedTears nennt, werd ich aber böse. Ich finds halt einfach im höchsten Maße albern! Nickname is das, was man im Internet benutzt, aber auch n Spitzname. Mein Spitzname bzw Abkürzung ist Dani und den benutze ich nur noch^^ Aber IcedTears käm da nich infrage!

I think it depends on the name.

IcedTears is kinda hard to nickname, that'd probably end up IT or something. But Tuuli is a good shortening of hers and could easily be an actual name.
