I hate this weekend. Last year my dog died, this year my favourite Melbourne pub/venue is getting closed down.haha

Haha. You're probably right.
Long story. media, politicians have been playing up violence in the city. Any assault/arrest now is being considered alcohol related and they're blaming city and inner city licensed venues of all kinds. Most of the trouble's around nightclubs and strip joints but band venues get caught up in it just for selling alcohol. Melbourne is a lot safer than many other cities so it's a lot of crap about nothing.
The Tote got classed as a high risk venue despite barely having any fights in the 15 years I've been going there, never seen police called once. So they got told they have to double their security and their alcohol license fee went up over triple. They can't afford it so after 29 yeras as a band venue, 112 years as a pub it's over after closing on Sunday.
Apologies in advance if there are silly drunken emotional posts at weird hours this weekend.
