where in the uk are you travelling from? we travelled from Manchester last year, quite a long journey but not too expensive and not confusing when ya know what ya doin. couldn't figure out the machines at the trainstation at first though, you could change the text on screen to english but the problem was all the buttons were still german of course, doh!

if you go next year i guarentee you'll love it. Best festival i've been to.

Buy a ticket to Itzehoe. Not all trains are direct, sometimes you’ll have to change once, can’t remember what the name of the station is, but it’ll say on your ticket.

That's Elmshorn, I think. Just in case the tickets don't say anything ;)

you'll need to get the tube from hamburg to Altona

and then train from altona to itzehoe, then bus from itzehoe to wacken.

Yes, I know, but there are two options:

-Hamburg (hbf) - Altona - Itzehoe
-Hamburg (hbf) - Elmshorn - Itzehoe

I just don't know which one is faster.....

speaking as a stupid english person who doesn't understand a word of german, the elmshorn route is far less confussing. the altona one involved the underground which confussed the hell out of me and got us horribly lost.

You can always take a "normal" train from Hbf to Altona, without having to take the U-Bahn. Just take all "Regionalbahn" trains to Altona from Hauptbahnhof!
