Victims Of Madness
Today the first band in the WET stage was Victims Of Madness. A friendly man named Thordis informed me that the band that we're dealing with was a fun project ( I heard this after the band's performance by the way, as this is my second review...). This band was formed online at the Wacken forum by people who chat there. They never played together before this day and just sent tabulatures online to eachother. When I arrived in the tent there was just a hand ful of people watching, and because of the info I got I conclude (but don't know 100% for sure of course) that the majority were frends and fellow chatters. The fact that they hadn't played together was also hearable, as the band wasn't very tight and also the stage performance wasn't what you'd call very good, but this band was about fun and not about a serious performance I was told. I walked in while they were playing a death metal cover (don't know which unfortunately) and the vocals feedbacked a lot, due to placing a hand entirely over the microphone. After this song there were some changes in the line-up (I think this band had a multiple of vocalists and guitarplayers) and they started "Iron Man" from Black Sabbath, with a vocalist that wasn't too bad but a guitarplayer that was. The sound that they had was pretty good though, but the song wasn't tight or convinced me to act outrageous. Especially the guitarplayer was bad in his play. At one time the vocalist even asked someone in the audience if he wanted to come up and sing, but this probably wasn't a spontaneous action, but someone he knew. After this they started Metallica's "For Whom The Bells Toll", and when hearing this I just left. If you want to play covers make sure you know how to play them properly (you should've heard the intro-riff man...) and don't do the artist shame, but all in good fun so it seems... I was glad to hear Amon Amarth after this, believe me!
