Though I won't be in either of them. My eyes are pointed to Party-San (Schlottheim, Germany) and Fall of Summer in Torcy (France). And Metal Mean in Méan Belgium. And maybe Graspop!

I'm always in awe at the number of great festivals there are in Europe. Maybe a little envious too

Not long enough !
We're spending 7 in Germany ... wed-sun at Wacken (of course) and 2 days in Hamburg with another 2 days in Dublin, Ireland.

sounds good for a first time, but a bit short indeed.
But at least you'll be in wacken!

But at least you don't necessarily have to go to the big festivals, if you want to see/hear a particular genre. You just pick a small one, and they're as nice as the big brother. Fewer facilities of course, but that may have its charms as well!
On the other hand, if you can't choose, those big festivals offer anything you need, and you can see what you like to see.

That's why I always go to Hörnerfest. Small, I meet my friends there, I camp with them, we discuss about anything, and that''s good! And after it's finished, we'll have to wait another year to see each other. (because Schleswig-Holstein - Hainault is ONE hell of a distance!!!)

And Eindhoven is where it all started for me. That's like home to me.
