There is definitly a lack of death metal (ANY death metal) so far this year, but a huge factor to consider is despite this being an anniversary show, how can you beat the reunited At The Gates and Carcass show of last year?? those are 2 of the biggest names in metal and I'm sure 1000's of people around the globe kicked them selves in the ass for not going.

I really, really want management to bring on a few death metal acts for us all, but I also keep in mind that although whatever they do bring will probably be great, it probably cant come close to topping last year. Just have to be grateful for what they give you.

i think you should be more patient.
germans should have read some posts about "non-confirmed" bands, where people told about their emails to ics and the answers, like "we'll confirm one of the bands you asked for". so there are serious bands playing for sure, which arent in the billing now.
i know its more speculation, but why shouldn't they wait with the official confirmation to make it more exciting if its sold out? maybe i'm too optimistic, but you should calm down for 1-2 months ;-)

I personally have been calm for a fair amount of time. You can't tell me that the "Big" announcement that was the last one was worth the hype really. Running Wild was a very good announcement, and I'm glad I'm able to (finally) see Enslaved who I have to miss on their US tour. Hopefully things will turn around. For me, I'm fairly satisfied as it stands, though I would like to see more black metal on there.

I am typically optimistic, but after awhile of feeling like nothing is happening I feel like there's no point in getting my hopes up of it matching the lineups of other fests or even prior years despite it being the "Best Of". Look at this year vs last year and 2007. By this point last year and the year before a huge amount of awesome bands were listed. We don't even know who the headliners are officially yet and it's nearly May. I might be mistaken because this is my first year and last year was the first time I really paid attention, but don't they announce the headliners early usually?

I just can't see how it's a good business strategy either to announce things that are relatively unpopular or blow the announcements up with hype to disappoint, which has been the case the past two. I knew the first "big" announcement about a month before it was announced. A lot of people knew that the "big" band just announced would be Running Wild. There's really no surprises. Most of the bands I want to see, and many I'd rather not, have toured in Massachusetts at least twice within the past year or will be touring here within the next 3 months. That's kind of saying a lot. Perhaps if there were some good surprises and some less common bands people wouldn't be complaining.

That and if it didn't seem that black/death metal was being exchanged for goth and nu-metal/'core bands.

It's my fourth Wacken Visit now and I never payed attention that much on the line-up, because the times before I knew there were awesome bands, looking at the Wacken Homepage once and seeing ('08) Obituary or Cynic, etc. announced, but this year... I wondered because there wasn't any Death Metal and now I'm getting disappointed and even angry spending 130 € on this, because I trusted in Orga announcing awesome Death Metal.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of death metal but it needs to be there without a doubt. It's a part of festival's history and there should be no exception to bringing some great death metal acts.

I trusted the organizers to announce a good lineup in general with a huge mix of things. That's what drew me to Wacken mostly, the fact the lineups have been outstanding the past few years with everything. In my opinion it's still worth the price of the ticket, but the airfare price is an entirely seperate issue. That needs a bit more to make that worth it.

I hope that my replacement theory isn't correct. That would be wrong on so many different levels.

maybe wacken has just confirmed some of them months ahead but have waited to put them in the bill page??!!! I hope yes!!!
Riiiiight, and I'm a queen of England...
Let me tell you what happened:
1)People trusted orga since it's freaking Wacken, and freaking 20 anniversary, and previous 4 years there were an amazing line-ups, so they all bought tickets in advance, causing insane sold-out in december.
2)Orga made a wrong call and invested bunch of money, time and resources in this Wacken Rocks project, which as I understand, isn't really working out very well.
3)Orga missed the opportunity to bill good bands from different genres due the previous reason. So they decided to make it up at least for some of the crowd. 70% of Wacken visitors are germans and germans are obsessed with old school heavy and power metal, so Orga booked couple of good bands in this area.
4)The rest of the crowed can just suck it up. Unfortunately I'm in that part, which totally not interested in some old rockers playing their goodbye shows.
5)It's three months before the fest. No way it will be possible to book any good (I'm not even talking great) bands, so the rest of the line up will be consisted of unknown local bands.
6)I'm watching the Metalcamp line-up and I wanna just put my head through a wall due the fact it's just unbelievable dreamy.

Sure it's possible to book good bands. Unless they were lying, they said at the start that 80% were already booked and would be announced with time.

I don't doubt the Wacken Rocks projects are the cause of the delays and stuff; they did put way too much of their resources into them and they might end up coming to regret that.

Anyways, I wouldn't doubt that a fair number of high-end acts that aren't only appealing to the German crowd are going to come.

I don't think it's as unlikely as you seem to think. Immortal, as an example, is coming active again. At very least they're recording a new album; which opens them up to live shows. Very likely we might be able to see them on the Wacken stage this year. Of course it's just a possibility, but it's not unrealistic.

Three months before the fest, sure if they were to book them now they'd find it difficult to get decent acts. I'm trusting the organizers wouldn't lie and say they had 80% of things booked in Sept. if they really didn't. Sure, Wacken Rocks Brazil being canceled isn't a good sign, but I doubt that it'd affect much.

I'll give it until June-ish before I really get concerned with the lack of Black/Death metal bands. It'd be unrealistic to figure the organizers would slack off on getting them.

What are you still doing here?
And why are you still reading this thread if you have nothing more to say ?

Can't you understand that I have a ticket, a bus trip, and a few other reasons to go, and that I still hope to see the line-up get better ?

Is that so difficult to understand that some people can express their feelings instead of suffering in silence ?
