Hi, I am coming from NY with my girlfriend, and need to act quickly. Can anyone help me with hotels near the festival. Also, what is there to do after the festival in Germany. Should I go to Munich, Hamburg, etc... Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

why do you need a hotel when there is a campsite? You miss the whole ambiance, she special Wacken feeling if you stay in a hotel instead of the campsite.
On the left side of the wacken site there is a link where you can find some hotels in the neighbourhood.

and Heineken...? When does the foreign people learn to drink real beer :p

but welcome to this forum Nightwish58. I hope you will come around sometime.:)

for the other question the German forum people should answer that.

As Iscariot said, to enjoy the whole atmosphere of the festival join the campingsite. The Hotels at Wacken are booked out I think so you have to take a taxi or something to go to Itzehoe or anther place nearby.
Concerning the tourist- stuff, it depends on how long you will stay. Hamburg is only about 70 km away so it would make sense to visit it. It´s a Rock´n´Roll city in comparison to Munich (which is nearly 900 km away) wich always seemed a little bit posh to me.

The reason I need a hotel is b/c my girl is already ready to kill me with this festival, and I'm sure she wouldn't appreciate camping out on the lawn! As for the beer, when I get there, you can tell me what to get! Thanks man

howdy and welcome

for hotel information look in the INFO section on the menu on left of your screen.

There is so much to do in Germany it's hard to make suggestions because I don't know what else you're into...castles? museums? sport? wineries? hiking? It's almost like asking "how long is a piece of string?" ;)

Do some net research. Start with the German tourist website and buy a really good travel guide on Germany. I use Lonely Planet, but there are so many on the market to choose from.

Go an have a look in the bookshop and/or contact your local German tourist office/Embassy for brochures.

I hope you find a hotel nearby but still.....I think you should go to the camping...:)

About the beer: I am not a beer specialist but I do know some Dutch beers. And Heineken is drinkable, but not more than that.
Heineken only become so famous because mr Heineken was a great bussinesman. I prefer Grolsch, Amstel, Hertog Jan or Brand. But I Like the Belgian beer more than that. (don't know if HJ is Belgian or not)
White beer (don't know thew English or German word for it) is really great. You should try Hoegaarden (with a slice of lemon in it)
But everyone has a different taste, I know....

Hotels

im staying at the "Mercure" hotel in Itzehoe it is near the train station and busses that will take you to the festival site,it is not too expensive and breakfast is included in the price which is £90 a night i think that is about 140 euros, it is a 4 star hotel and looks very nice also all staff speak english,if you are intrested i will get you the e-mail address you can book and pay on arrival if you dont have a international credit card.

@ Brat, that is the cheapest price we could find, most places we priced were asking for 170-200 euros the mercure is around £60
a double room at all other times appart from wacken festival.
Hmmm i wonder why??? but for a 4star hotel that is a good price
you should see the prices in glasgow for a same type of hotel!

We looked at hotels and found some cheaper than 90 pounds a night whihch seems well too expensive for my budget using the wacken hotel guide. But then we decided although its our first time at Wacken the atmosphere on the campsite would be amazing and we'd get to meet a load of new people. So I suggest you just come and camp on the campsite as hotels are probably booked up by now.
