Hmm..."goth" being defined as dark and brooding, maybe? Perhaps...if "Everybody's Hurts" wasn't so dang uplifting.

I'd only call R.E.M. goth in that same awkward associative sense that everyone talks about how Talking Heads and Blondie were so much a part of the early punk scene. In short...I just don't get it. And I'll echo witchfinder's sentiment, lol.
