Ok, our plane from Hamburg doesn’t leave until the August 6. Therefore, we need a hotel to stay at in Hamburg from the 4 to the 6. Two days! But since we are 18 years old and students, we need a pretty cheap hotel. And it would be awesome if the hotel is close to either the railroad (Main station) or the Airport (Hamburg). So if you have a hotel to recommend, I would defiantly want you to tell me.

And how is it about transport in Hamburg? How easy and expensive is it to take a taxi from the railroad to the hotel and from the hotel to the airport?

Thank you all that the answer that may come. It will really help us out!

Hamburg
don't decide to stay close to the airport, as that is a totally boring area far off everything.

Near the main station might be an option, though thats either boring city center (west of station) or red light district (south east of station) or gay district (north of station). Anyway there are cheap hotels at / near Steindamm. If you don't mind porn cinemas and stuff just stay there. :D

If you want to stay in a nicer area, check out http://www.instantsleep.de (backpacker's hostel), http://www.jugendherberge.de/jh/hamburg-stintfang ("official" youth hostel), http://www.schanzenstern.de (rather cheap ho(s)tel) , http://www.kogge-hamburg.com ("Rock'n Roll hotel") or something like that.

Good areas to stay are St. Pauli / Schanzenviertel
/ Karoviertel and Altona / Ottensen. Rather central, vibrant, not posh and have lots of pubs and places to go out. There's "Some" :D red light district in St. Pauli of course too.

If you need info about places to go out check out http://www.metaltravelguide.com/mtg/index.php?option=com_mtree&task=listcats&cat_id=998&Itemid=56
(self promotion :D )

For transport, there are subways and busses in Hamburg which will bring you everywhere. Taxis are available too of course, but might be a bit expensive for a student's budget.

HTH!

Yup, she knows!!
I have stayed at the Instatnt Sleep hostel and it's OK.A little cramped but friendly.
For 4-6 ppl , cheap, http://www.schanzenstern.de (Hotel Stern) is a nice option. It's walking distance to the Headbanger's Ballroom (fish market), and very close to a subway (maybe 2) + right on the Reeperbahn.

We stay at a Best Western in St Rapheal (However you spell it) It's a 4 star hotel and works out at £25 per night per person, we go there everyyear and I went there earlier in the year for a mini holiday.

It's right next to the haupbahnhouf train station, great location. The hotel even has a hot tub and a suana for free! great to get rid of the shit on your skin from Wacken.

Where abouts do you live Jon?

Well, I'm all set up at Hotel Stern again (actually got it free by using credit card points and booking on expedia).

Has anyone heard anything about a post party for this year?

Oh JA! Of course I'm camping! :D

I'll be arriving in Hamburg Monday before the fest, and flying home the Tuesday morning after, so I had to get a place to stay some of those extra days.

Last year I stayed at a fenomenally fancy 3 star hotel. It wasn't anyway near St Pauli but it was this 75 sq m room with roomservice, high ceiling, huge bathroom etc. Grand. cost me only 75 euros but I came back 'round 6am to go to sleep, maybe a bit steep considering what I paid, lol

I think this year I'll opt for a hostel, closer to where the action is.

This Stern hostel looks like a sleazy fleahostel to me, with semen, bacteria and snot all over the sheets. Or is it doable? I'm into hostels if there sort of hygienic...

Yes, this Stern hostel looks like a sleazy fleahostel, but it´s no one.

The Hotel is clean, has little rooms and if you´ll have a room behind, i mean no sight to the street, so it´s o.k. Price: 25 € for each.

The breakfast is good, the ambience in the breakfast-hall ist eventful :)

We´ll come two days before Wacken, to see Hamburgs flair and go shopping in the fetish-shops. :D
