Hello, metalheads!

Me and my friend are going to Wacken for the first time this year and we have booked a hotel in Itzehoe, but we have a little misunderstanding about the situation with shuttles Wacken -> Itzehoe. I've tried to check many threads on this forum, but still haven't found an answer.

We want to go to Wacken and back every day. For example, we want to go to Wacken at 14:00 and leave Wacken at 00:00. So, maybe someone has faced with the same situation at 2022 and can share your experience? Is it really possible to take a shuttle bus from the festival every day at night?
I understand that there can be problems at the last day of the festival, but what's the situation for 1-3 days?

In addition, as I understand, it's not possible to leave by taxi because the road is blocked and it's necessary to walk somewhere out of Wacken grouds, call a taxi and wait, so at night it's seems too difficult, am I right?

That was the plan for last year.

Monday and Tuesday could be challenging to get back to Itzehoe, because there is just a one way transfer with the Shuttle to Wacken. You would need a taxi then, i needed one last year on Monday because of meetings following day, and it was not a big deal, just a bit challenging to get a free taxi.

But beginning on Wednesday there should be a regular Shuttle Service to Wacken and from Wacken, if it is the same procedure as every year.

As I understood:
You can easily take a shuttle bus each day to Itzehoe.
However, I honestly don't know how it works in practice. So... as soon as the time table is online, you can see it for yourself.

Nicht Montag und Dienstag! Es sei denn, es wird dieses Jahr jetzt geändert, und du hast mehr Infos./Not Monday or Tuesday as you can see from last years schedule.

We don't want to visit Wacken on Monday and Tuesday so that's not a problem. We want to use the shuttles from 02.08 to 05.08 every day, and transfer from Itzehoe to Wacken doesn't seem to be difficult, but the way back from Wacken to Itzehoe at night is still not clear for me. For example, according to the timetable in message #2, ther is only one transfer per hour from Itzehoe to Wacken after 20:00 and I'm not sure if that's enougn. I've seen some messages on this forum like "if you want to leave on last train from Itzehoe at 00:00, you'll have to go to shuttles at 22:00". But, in case when I want to leave at 00:00, I don't understand estimates in the queue and chances to leave Wacken without problems at that time.

When your hotel is IN Itzehoe, as you mentioned before, why would you need the train? That's a bit confusing for me. If so, do as it is said in the messages you mentioned for sure.
By the way, follow the news about a possible strike at "Deutsche Bahn". That could be a big challenge for the Festival if it would happen at this time.

I mentioned train just for example, because I've seen a message in one of the topics on this forum from someone who wants to leave by last train from Itzehoe. I've booked a hotel at Itzehoe center and just want to understand the situation with evening/night shuttles from Wacken for the previous years, nothing more. I think that there are a lot of people who used these shuttles and I hope someone can share information.
Problem is: no time tables are published yet, so in all honesty, no one really knows anything!
Yes, I understand it and that's why I asked about the previous years (2019, 2022).

Ok, then you could take the latest Shuttle from Wacken to Itzehoe, and dont need to hurry. When your hotel is the Mercator (1,8 km distance from Shuttle) or Dithmarscher Hof (450m), you need to walk from the Shuttle Station, to your hotel, because the public transport is not available on this time anymore, or you could try your luck to get a taxi, but guess where they all are with long waiting times :D

The main problem is that I'm afraid about situation like when we want to leave from Wacken at 00:00 shuttle and it would be necessary to wait until 01:00 or 02:00 at night, or there are too many people who want to leave by shuttle and, as a result, we can't leave, so this is the reason why I created this topic to dispel (or not) my doubts...

In the last year, many eggs were throwing to the Shuttles and Taxis. Please, be carefully.

Can you explain a little bit more?
I've heard about problems with the shuttles on Monday or Tuesday last year, when people came to Itzehoe and waited 3-4 hours for the shuttles to take them away to Wacken, but haven't found any further information about next days.
You also mentioned taxis. I found out that they are also available at the shuttle bus stop, am I right? What's wrong with taxis in this case?

Many Busses and Taxis from Itzehoe were throwing with eggs in Wacken. So many of them do not want to drive to wacken anymore.
