To say that youre not going because of this is a little extreme in my opinion. Of course, I do not agree with this addition to the bill- but the fact remains that 90% of the other bands playing are awesome- where else this year are you going to see the likesof Immortal, Sodom, Destruction, Therion etc all together?

The fact that BFMV have been confirmed is nothing new in the sense that every year there are at least one or two shitty bands- the main difference about this is that they are being placed in a main position. If they were tucked away quietly on the party stage somewhere then no one would probably care.

Whilst I will still go, for one more year atleast, I can understand why people would not. It's not because the band are shit or whatever, opinion like this is subjective - people think that there are shit bands on every year. For example, I personally find Lacuna Coil to be terrible - but I am not complaining about them. I'd have thought that it's pretty obvious at this point that people who're complaining about Bullet find them to be a particular exception - something nearly alien to the rest of the festival - a poor parody of metal whose popularity relies on marketing, ballads about relationships and looking like a metal boy-band.

Do you really think all of these people are so up in arms just because they find the band's music to be bad?

Anyway, I shall be avoiding their set, hoping that they perform only to tumble weed so that they, and the horde of similar pop-metal bands, do not get an opportunity to play Wacken in the future. If there is any justice, there will be an ace band on the Party Stage at the same time - something I am sure the organisers will have considered, given the response to Bullet.

.

i will be going this year, i will stay in the campsite drinking while bfmv is on and i will not be back next year! by ignoring everyone's complaints and telling us tostop ruining it for others they have shit on us, the true fans! and it IS a sign of wackens future as a cross-over festival to mtv "metal" so it aint for me anymore, which i gutted about, ive been a wacken fan for about 7 years and have always been interested in everything wacken but i guess this is the end.

This is wild worrying for metalheads all over.

But to be honest, this worry is focused on just one commercially sucessful band, just one. If you just draw away your attention from BFMV, and take a look at the other bands on the sheet, you got yourselves quite a class festival. Given the obvious reaction to the news, there's already "Controversy" attached to it, but if there is anything that shows, it's that at times such a simple band confirmation like BFMV can bring out the child out of some metalheads over the world, or worse, strengthening the "Pessimistic Metalhead" stereotype. And what is worse really? The sight of a teenage BFMV fan at wacken, or the sight of a adult metalhead whining about the whole situation at hand?
There are some people who look at this and say to themselves "Fuck it, thats not going to stop me" and go on anyway. Some of you need to embrace that attitude.
And besides, they probably will only be on for about an hour-half or something like that. Dont be letting that throw you off.

Hopefully my final post on this subject... :D

Right, let's just forget that BfmV are a bunch of talentless, poser, emo-styled fuckers (IMO, obviously) and concentrate on why everyone is against them at Wacken...

Because they are a commercial band who have been around for about 3 weeks and have a headliner position at a festival at which their style of music does not belong.

Remember, commercial does not mean the same as successful. Blind Guardian are successful but they aren't commercial. Nightwish are successful but they aren't commercial (face it, if you think operatic shrieks over a power metal background is commercial you need your head testing). They are successful because they have worked fucking hard to get where they are, not because some retarded 'journalist' at NME told people to go out and buy their albums. BfmV are commercial, pure and simple. They were created to appeal to young teenagers who read kerrang and metal hammer. These people also sing the praises of Linkin Park, Slipknot and Funeral for a Friend as innovative legends of rock/metal.
I'm not doubting that there are people who truly like BfmV, nor that there will be BfmV fans at Wacken but the simple fact is that this band are commercial mtv metal and they do not belong at Wacken at all, but especially not in what looks to be a headlining spot.

Yes, there have been bands at Wacken who have looked odd on the lineup (Whitesnake, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Motorhead, Boehse Onkelz) but there hasn't been much of an uproar because, although they are popular and known to many people who don't even listen to metal, they are not commercial in the sense that BfmV are. (the exception, IMO, is Boehse Onkelz, but they got away with it because nobody outside Germany has ever heard of them...and of course, they have that Nazi history...).
Wacken may feel that they are bringing this band in to make more money but the festival sold out in 06 without this shit and it would have sold out eventually even without the move to the more well-known bands because the festival's reputation would have brought more fans to it. Let's just hope that they haven't flushed that rep completely down the pan with this truly pathetic decision.

The rest of the lineup does look phenomenal for the most part and hopefully it will be a great festival. I just hope that we don't get more commercial shit next year...not that it matters to me as this will probably be my last Wacken, :( on account of joining the navy! :D

Hopefully that made some kind of sense. Enough now. Have a good festival everyone, hope to share a beer or 10 with some of you in about 8 months! :D

I am not so concerned with a shit band playing as I am their retarded fans showing up. Shit bands manage to weasel their faggot faces into everything nowadays, but the last thing I want is to see a bunch of emo fucks acting like they're hot shit metalheads because they saw some real metal bands. It's stuff like this that makes posers, and I would really love to see them kicked off. Fucking bfmv don't belong anywhere on the same planet as me, but putting those fuckers in pretty much the last good thing metalheads have is just an insult.

This is lower than low.

All this is going to achive is getting more english people over, and not the metal ones!!

I've found wacken to be a friendly metal festival where people who are metal go to drink and listen to metal with their metal brothers and sisters.

You just have to look at the english festivals (like download) with riots and trouble at every corner to see that this is whats going to happen when you get the non metal folk in england interested in going over to germany!

This gives us decent english metalers a bad name as we will be painted with the same brush. I noticed this at the last wacken when talking to some swedish folk. They said we english have shit taste in music, but we straightened it out by talking (not fighting like the english pricks that will be coming over this year) about metal and beer. we got on very well and drank lots of beer :)
