PROTIPS:
-The german ATM won't charge you extra, your bank will charge you an "international fee" probably about 5 dollars per transaction. Look for big glowy "Geldautomat" signs at any train station.
-Take out a ton of money at once to save on fees and have emergency fund. Do not assume you'll easily find an ATM wherever you go.
- Visa/Mastercard is taken in most large places, but not many of the cheaper grocery stores like ALDI. You'll see an "EC" symbol at some registers - that's NOT you. Always have some cash just in case.
- Last year, the ATMs at the festival grounds ran out of cash a few times, so show up with a bunch of money that's always in a safe pocket on your person.
- TELL YOUR BANK YOU ARE GOING TO GERMANY. Seriously, call them. Many American banks are known to freeze debit and credit cards if they see activity from abroad, because they assume your identity has been stolen. It can really ruin a vacation.
