If you ask me, it's stupid to wait until December or even November to hire anyone. It's too crazy a time of year to properly train anyone, and plus, if it turns out that they suck, you have to replace them and then at least somewhat train them in time for the holiday rush. And if you can't... this happens.

Someone's first day was the day before Black Friday. They were completely useless.

yeah, the new guy will start in januari, just when things will peak.
since most companies will be closed between Christmas and newyears they'll be calling us on the 2nd of januari with all the crap that they didn't report in that period... and we still need to train this guy which will take a few months... it'll take about 2 weeks before he can even take his first calls...
