Actually....naw, i think you are right, since you are negating that you like to stay, rather than staying itself.

It' s always "gerne bleiben", no matter what he is pronouncing. Unfortunatly I can't explain, why. I only know how to use the language, not how to explain the grammar.

In German you don't put all verbs together, but you say first what IS it you do, and than what you're really DOING!

E.g. Ich möchte gern EIN BIER haben.
What do I want? (I would like (...) a beer)
What am I doing? (I'd like TO HAVE)

Hopefully this is clear.

That's not absolutely correct. You can say "Ich bleibe gerne", too.

(And "bleiben" isn't what you're doing in you're sentence. What you're doing is "möchten". So the adjective is behind your verb there, too.) [I hope, you understand, what I want to say^^']

"kein Aufsatz" would be slang. You can say that, but no one would write it.
