No, that was fucked up what they did at the Superbowl...I'm sorry, but they manipulated that whole situation. They know that a majority of Americans watch the game on that day, and the government had some hand in making it all patriotic, because they know that we aren't all feeling super patriotic at the moment.
Still... it's a SPORTS event! (OK, the biggest in the year, but still...)
well I dunno, didn't watch it...
but is there anything wrong with that, even if they did?

Sorry to say, but you can overdo it.

They way they did it was they introduced a bunch of recent heroes, like the crew of that flight that went down in New York, and then they brought out General Petraeus at the end to do the coin toss. No one's going to boo him if he comes after those people, but had he been first, he would have been booed to some degree. So they broadcast to everyone that look, hey, everyone else is cheering, and you damn better well too.

Yep. And the last 8 years proved that this was not good.
If we have to learn about the US, it should also work both ways.

you'd think, but not necessarily...
like I bet kids in some random African country learn plenty about the US, but there's not really anything to gain on our part by teaching us about them, if they haven't done anything historically significant
not to say they're not important, though.
