And I agree with what is being said, I don't mind so much if a band I don't care for is on the billing. There's more than enough other bands to see instead, or time for a trip to the Metal Market or beer stand. The bad part is it draws a new and not so good crowd to Wacken, a different atmosphere. It was better in 2003 for sure.

well, it's not about that one band playing. It's about the whole message about that one band playing. It says:
-we're more considered about making money than staying a metal show
-we rather have you people that make us sold our instead of our loyal long year-visitors

and it promises:
-many people are gonna come that you don't want to have around in Wacken
-the festival is gonna change more and more into that direction as long as they make money out of it

well thank you then... it's just so frustrating... when I came home from 'Hell over Deathmarschen' that one evening, being really annoyed of what I've seen at the only metalevent in town, my mum started mocking on me. I told her how disappointed I was, that the bands weren't even metal and like one person has actually been headbanging, all the others have been 'dancing' on the music..
She told me I was too serious about my music and that I should start having fun with the people whatever music is playing. I normally do that, so I explained that the problem was that I was expecting to see a metalevent and that they made that out of it under the name of metal and worst of all, everybody seemed to be fine with it... she told me I was childish about my music and that when I had 'grown up' I would be laughing about my ideas that days... :(

yeah parents (hey, I'm one ) don't understand, more I shouild say, non Metal Heads just don't understand.

and actually they seem to have more German fans than Dutch. I've seen them in the Netherlands but also in Germany. The Germans have even been singing the lyrics, brought Dutch flags and yelled Dutch phrases like and so on. That really was a celebration of a good band. Maybe the Dutch just take them too much for granted or the places I've seen them were too small

exactly, I totally agree. And as long as it sells out faster and faster, the promoters will do it more and more. 2008 sold out in record time and 2009 looks like it will be even quicker.

Though I feel that Maiden were a big reason why 2008 sold out quickly, and Maiden are a band that deserve to play WOA. But if the billing gets worse and worse each year, by the time I can afford to return, I'll likely go to a different festival.

my siblings either...
like my brother has both Rock Band and Guitar Hero, and he thinks that I'll think he's soooo cool for knowing certain metal songs
just today, I was watching a thing about Metallica's Black Album, and they were talking about Enter Sandman as the song played...
and my brother literally turned on Rock Band and started playing it...
I got up and left... watched it upstairs instead

they actually told me theirselves, that they enjoy their acts in Germany more (and if I remember correctly also play there more). Wacken is probably full of Germans that would go crazy for Heidevolk plus the Dutchies... why not let them play there?

some day we're gonna have Toki Hotel on stage, just wait for it

You just may very well be right on that, and that is a sad thought! Why don't the promoters get more thrash on the billing since it's making a comeback. Probably because emo/metalcore makes more money than thrash for now. I hope that thrash does not get as big and commercial as those other genres.
